SEIKO Ref.6159-7001は、セイコーダイバーの上位機種として位置付けられる「PROFESSIONAL 300m Diver」です。国産初の本格ダイバーズウォッチとして知られる62系の流れを受け継ぎ、堅牢なワンピースケースと300m防水を備えた、当時のセイコーの技術力を象徴するモデルです。ムーブメントは、グランドセイコーで採用された10振動のハイビート系キャリバーをベースとするCal.6159Aを搭載。大きくカットされたケースフォルム、両方向回転式ベゼル、マットブラックダイヤル、立体的なミニッツトラックが組み合わされ、実用時計でありながら高い完成度を感じさせる一本です。当時のウレタンベルトが装着されている点が、希少性を高めています。

コンディションは良好です。ケースに使用に伴う小傷が見られますが、オリジナルの力強いプロポーションはしっかりと保たれており、ケースサイドやラグのエッジが明瞭に残っています。ベゼルに細かな傷がございますが、大きな剥がれは見られず、ゴールドとブラックの美しい色合いを維持しています。ダイヤルはマットブラックの質感が良く残っており、レターのプリントが鮮明です。針やインデックスの状態が良好で、夜光塗料は黒い経年変化の殆ど見られない自然な色味を保ち、保存環境の良さがうかがえます。当時のウレタンベルトは使用するとクセが付きますが、それがみられない点も評価できます。弊社にて分解清掃済みです。

1960年代は、機械式腕時計は完成期とも言えるほどの発展を遂げた時期で、セイコーは精度コンクールの分野でも量産の分野でも、世界に追いつき、追いぬいた時代であった。同時に、「時計の電子化」が進展し、1969（昭和44）年12月にセイコーが世界初のクオーツ（水晶）腕時計を発売することにより、機械式腕時計からクオーツ腕時計へと大きく舵を切ろうとする時期でもあった。

The SEIKO Ref. 6159-7001, designated the “Professional 300m Diver,” represents the upper tier of Seiko’s vintage dive watch lineup. Building upon the legacy of the 62MAS, Japan’s first purpose-built dive watch, it features a robust monocoque case construction and 300-meter water resistance, showcasing Seiko’s technical capabilities at the height of the mechanical era. Powering the watch is the Cal. 6159A, a high-beat movement derived from the same 36,000 vph lineage used in Grand Seiko models. The sharply faceted case, bi-directional rotating bezel, matte black dial, and raised minute track combine to create a highly functional tool watch with remarkable visual presence. The presence of its original period urethane strap further enhances the rarity of this example.

The watch remains in excellent condition. The case shows only light signs of wear, while retaining its original strong proportions, with crisp edges along the case sides and lugs. The bezel displays minor marks consistent with age but no significant loss, preserving its attractive black-and-gold color scheme. The matte black dial remains exceptionally well preserved, with sharp lettering and a clean overall appearance. The hands and indexes are in equally attractive condition, while the luminous material has retained a natural tone with virtually none of the darkening often seen on examples of this age, reflecting the watch’s careful preservation. The original urethane strap is particularly noteworthy, as these straps typically develop pronounced curvature through use; the absence of such deformation is a strong indication of limited wear. The Ref. 6159-7001 occupies a special place in the history of Seiko dive watches. Often associated with the exploits of famed explorer Naomi Uemura, it has become an icon of durability and practical engineering. Produced for only a relatively short period and combining advanced engineering with distinctive design, the 6159-7001 remains one of the most desirable and collectible vintage Seiko divers ever produced.
