数あるスピードマスターの中でも常に高い人気を誇る、TVスクリーン型の「Speedmaster Automatic 20」Ref.176.0014。ケースとブレスレットが一体で成立する造形に、グレーダイヤルとタキメータースケールが重なり、1970年代らしい実験精神が端正にまとまっています。本作は多機能な4針構成で、センターの針が時分針に加え、クロノグラフ秒針とクロノグラフ分針を担う設計。サブダイヤルはそれぞれ、6時位置は12時間積算計、9時位置はスモールセコンド、12時位置は24時間計となり、AM/PMを直感的に把握できるレイアウトです。ムーブメントはLemania 5100をベースにチューンナップされたCal.1045を搭載します。

ミントコンディションです。ケースは当時のプロポーションをしっかり保ち、面と稜線が残っています。インナーベゼルはブラックの色合いが濃く残り、引き締まった印象です。ダイヤルは良好な状態で、夜光塗料は理想的に焼けたベージュカラーへと変化し、年代相応の趣きを添えています。弊社にて分解清掃済みです。

センター分積算は見た目のインパクトだけでなく、計測中の視線移動を少なくできる点が利点で、スポーツモデルらしい合理性が際立ちます。グレーダイヤル、ベージュへと落ちた夜光、黒味を保ったインナーベゼルの組み合わせも自然で、この年代らしい空気感が素直に残っています。専用ブレスレットの一体感も良く、日常使いとコレクション性の両立を狙える一本です。

今でこそ「Speedmasterイコール宇宙」という図式がすぐに浮かび上がりますが、初期の世代は宇宙とは全く関係のない、純粋なモータースポーツ用の時計として誕生。また、スピードマスターは、ダイヤルではなく外周ベゼルにタキメーターを表示した世界で初めての時計と言われています。1959年、スピードマスターはマイナーチェンジをします。ベゼルがアルミニウムの黒色ベースとなり、針の形状がアロー針からアルファ針に変更されたことで、より視認性が高まっています。NASAは宇宙での過酷な環境にも耐えうる丈夫なクロノグラフを探しており、名だたる強豪に勝ったスピードマスターを公式時計として採用。その後1969年人類初の月面着陸の際、スピードマスターを着用していたことは有名なお話。

Among the many Speedmaster variations, the TV-screen shaped “Speedmaster Automatic 20” Ref.176.0014 remains consistently sought after. The integrated architecture of case and bracelet, combined with the grey dial and tachymeter scale, captures the experimental yet disciplined spirit of the 1970s. This model features a multifunction four-hand layout, with centrally mounted hour and minute hands joined by central chronograph seconds and chronograph minute hands. The sub-dials are arranged with a 12-hour counter at 6 o’clock, small seconds at 9 o’clock, and a 24-hour indicator at 12 o’clock for intuitive AM/PM reference. Powering the watch is Cal.1045, a tuned development based on the Lemania 5100.

Presented in mint condition, the case retains its original proportions with crisp planes and defined edges. The inner bezel preserves a deep black tone, reinforcing a sharp overall impression. The dial remains in excellent condition, while the luminous material has aged to an attractive beige, adding appropriate period character. Fully serviced by our watchmaker.

Omega Speedmaster was originally conceived not for space exploration, but as a pure motorsport chronograph. It is widely regarded as the first watch to display the tachymeter scale on the external bezel rather than the dial. After refinements in 1959—including the transition to a black aluminum bezel and updated hand design—NASA selected the Speedmaster as its official chronograph, recognizing its resilience under extreme conditions. Its presence during the 1969 lunar landing secured its enduring place in horological history.
