1960年代半ばに登場した、キングセイコーのデイトモデルRef.4402-8000です。手巻きCal.4402Aを搭載し、25石、日付表示と秒針停止機能を備えています。シルバーの文字盤には放射状のサンレイ仕上げを施し、黒いラインを配した多面カットのバーインデックスと、三面構成のドーフィンハンドを組み合わせています。3時位置の日付窓を縁取る立体的な枠も、端正な文字盤にアクセントを添えています。Ref.4402-8000は、44KSに日付表示を加えたモデルとして1965年に登場しました。

ケースには擦り傷が複数見られ、ベゼルやラグの鏡面部分にも線傷が確認できます。一方で、ラグの稜線やケースの立体的な形状は保たれています。文字盤はサンレイ仕上げの質感が残り、インデックスや針も明瞭です。裏蓋の盾形メダリオンには擦れが見られます。弊社にて分解掃除済みです。

1960年代、セイコーは機械式時計の精度を高めるため、ムーブメントの改良と外装の設計に取り組みました。秒針停止機能を備えるCal.4402Aと、日付表示を加えた実用的な構成を持つ本機にも、その時代の製品づくりが表れています。切れのあるケースラインと簡潔なダイヤルが調和した、44KSを代表するデイトモデルです。

COMMENT

Introduced in the mid-1960s, this King Seiko Ref. 4402-8000 is the date-equipped version of the 44KS. It is powered by the manually wound Cal. 4402A, a 25-jewel movement with a date display and hacking seconds. The silver dial is finished with a radial sunburst pattern and features faceted baton indexes with black lines, paired with three-faceted dauphine hands. A raised frame surrounding the date window at 3 o’clock adds further definition to the clean dial layout. Ref. 4402-8000 was introduced in 1965 as a practical date-equipped variation of the 44KS.

The case shows several scratches, including linear marks on the polished surfaces of the bezel and lugs. The defined case lines and faceted form of the lugs remain well preserved. The dial retains its sunburst finish, while the hands and indexes remain clearly defined. The shield-shaped medallion on the case back shows some wear. Fully serviced by our watchmaker.

During the 1960s, Seiko pursued greater mechanical precision through continued development of both its movements and case construction. The Cal. 4402A, with its hacking-seconds function, and the practical addition of a date display reflect the company’s approach during this period. With its sharply defined case and restrained dial, this is a representative date model from the 44KS series.
