1900年代、飛行士サントス・デュモンが飛行中に時刻を確認できるようカルティエにオーダーしたのが「サントス」の始まり。そのサントスのなかでも八角形型モデル「サントスオクタゴン」は、平面上にカットが入ったブレスが、腕を動かす度にキラキラと煌めきます。シンプルながらもエレガントな印象を与えるモデルです。

The Santos, with its signature screw-set bezel and bracelet, stands as Cartier’s emblematic sports model. This particular piece is a high-end version of the Santos Octagon, produced in the 1980s, featuring a full solid gold construction. The flat-cut bracelet exudes an even sportier feel than the standard Santos, catching the light with striking brilliance at different angles. The glossy white dial showcases classic Cartier design cues, with Roman numerals and blued steel baton hands. A uniquely faceted, pointed sapphire cabochon crowns the piece—an elevated detail reserved for solid gold models.

A one-owner watch kept in mint condition, this piece displays only minimal storage marks on the case. The sharp architecture of the original form remains intact, preserving its well-defined proportions. Cartier enamel-finish dials from this era are known for developing hairline cracks over time, but this example features a rare “SWISS”-signed dial with no cracking whatsoever.
