COMMENT

1969年から製造が開始されたゼニスのデファイ。八角形のステンレスケースに14面ベゼルとゲイフレアー社製のラダーブレスレットを組み合わせた、ユニークで幾何学的なデザインが特徴です。300mの防水性能を誇り、当時としては珍しい傷のつきにくい強靭なミネラルクリスタルを採用しています。ベゼルがガラスをスクリューダウンする防水ケースで、オリジナルの竜頭もスクリューロックタイプです。ダイヤルは中央のグレーから周辺部のライトブラウンへと変化するグラデーションダイヤルです。針はゼニス独自の剣のような形状で、秒針の夜光のみオレンジ色でチャーミングです。

搭載ムーブメントはCal.2562PCです。ゼニス独自のムーブメントで、デイトジャストのように日付が瞬転します。ムーブメント外周に弾性のある衝撃吸収バンドで接地することで、衝撃保護を実現しています。

ケースは小傷を帯び、迫力を増しています。多角的なエッジは当時のままで、大変評価できます。竜頭のねじ込みも良好です。ダイヤルはパーフェクトコンディションです。気になるようなダメージは見られず、グラデーションが当時のままの色味を保っています。針やインデックスは上面の鏡面仕上げにくすみが見られず、良い状態です。トリチウムは美しいベージュカラーで、形に崩れが見られません。弊社にて分解掃除済みです。このベゼルは汎用工具では開閉が容易ではありませんが、弊社では専用工具を用意しております。

デファイは当時のスイス時計界で一般的であった腕時計の耐久性を大きく上回る水準を達成することを目標としていました。それは防水性能に特化したケース構造、先進的なミネラルガラス、耐衝撃のムーブメントに現れています。A3642は最も有名な初期の例で、のちにシリーズは広がりを見せ、ダイバーズモデルやさまざまなケースバリエーションで発展を遂げました。

BRAND

機械式時計の名機エル・プリメロで知られるスイスのブランド。1865年にスイスのル・ロックルで創業し、「天頂」をブランド名称の由来とするゼニスは、ムーブメントの開発および製造を自社で一貫して行っているマニュファクチュールブランドです。その技術力の高さは、博覧会などで獲得した2000を超える賞の数々が物語っています。

COMMENT

The Zenith Defy, produced since 1969, is renowned for its distinctive and geometric design, featuring an octagonal stainless steel case paired with a 14-sided bezel and a Gay Frères ladder bracelet. Boasting a water resistance of 300 meters, it uses a durable mineral crystal, which was more scratch-resistant than the then-standard plexiglass. The bezel screws down over the glass to form a waterproof case, and the original crown is also of the screw-lock type. The dial has a gradient from grey in the centre to light brown on the periphery. The hands are uniquely shaped, resembling swords, with the seconds hand's lume charmingly in orange.

The movement housed within is the Cal. 2562PC, which features an elastic shock-absorbing band around the movement's periphery for impact protection.

The case has acquired minor scratches, adding to its robust character. The multi-angled edges remain sharp, preserving the watch's original appeal. The crown screws down smoothly. The dial is in perfect condition, with no notable damage and retaining its original gradient hue. The hands and indices maintain their mirror finish without any tarnish. The tritium lume has aged to a beautiful beige without any deformation. Our company has fully serviced the watch. The bezel requires specialised tools for opening and closing, which we have available.

The Defy series aimed to exceed the then-common durability standards in the Swiss watch industry. This goal was achieved through its water-resistant case construction, advanced mineral glass, and shock-resistant movement. The A3642 is the most famous early example, and the series later expanded to include divers' models and various case variations.

BRAND

Zenith, known for its legendary El Primero movement, is a Swiss brand founded in 1865 in Le Locle, Switzerland. The name "Zenith" signifies the brand's aim for the "zenith" or the highest point. As a manufacture brand, Zenith develops and produces its movements entirely in-house. Its high level of technical expertise is evidenced by the over 2000 awards it has garnered at various expositions.
