オルフィナ社と協業したポルシェデザインが手掛けたRef.7177。F.A.ポルシェが主導したデザイン思想を受け継ぎながらも、Ref.7176とは異なる“MILITARY”ラインに属するモデルです。Ref.7176が世界初のオールブラックPVDコーティングを採用し、モータースポーツの文脈で生まれたのに対し、本作7177はその設計を基に軍用ニーズを想定した派生仕様として展開されました。ダイヤルには“PORSCHE DESIGN”“MILITARY”そしてトリチウム夜光を示す赤い“3H”ロゴを備え、ケースバックにはRef.7177の刻印を有します。前者がタキメーター表記のインナーベゼルを採用するのに対し、7177は12時間表記のベゼルを備え、実用性を重視した構成です。ケースは珍しいグレーPVD仕上げで、質実剛健な印象を与えます。ムーブメントはLemania Cal.5100を搭載し、センター60分積算針を含む中4針レイアウトが特徴です。

ケースはPVDコーティングにより深い傷はもとより、細かい傷も見当たらない保存状態の良い個体です。ブレスレットにはケースとのスレによりコーティングの剥がれが僅かに確認できますが、さほど気になりません。ダイヤルはミントコンディションです。コレクターズピースのため、分解掃除は行っておりません。

Ref.7177はNATO、イギリス海軍、スイス空軍、UAE空軍、アメリカ空軍、ベネズエラ国防省などで準官給・官給された実績が確認されています。一方で本個体には特定組織の刻印は見られず、市販モデルとして流通した個体と考えられます。本作はモータースポーツに端を発したポルシェデザインの工業的デザイン思想を、ミリタリー領域へと拡張した歴史的な存在です。軍用を想定した視認性・操作性の追求と、機能美を極めた造形の融合が、当時のポルシェデザインが目指した“人間工学に基づく道具としての時計”を体現しています。

オルフィナは1922年にスイスのグレンヘンにて創業した時計メーカー。創業当初から耐久性が高い軍用時計を中心に展開していた。現在もスポーツウォッチを中心に活動している。

ポルシェデザインはスポーツカーの代名詞といえるポルシェ911をデザインした、フェルディナント・アレクサンダー・ポルシェが1972年に創業したライフスタイルブランド。2022年に創業から50年の節目を迎えたばかりです。そんなポルシェデザインは時計、ステーショナリー、アパレルから、シャンパンクーラー、さらにはタワーマンションのデザインと、あらゆる分野において魅力的な製品を今まで輩出してきました。

COMMENT

The Porsche Design Ref.7177, produced in collaboration with Orfina, represents the military evolution of the brand’s design ethos led by Ferdinand Alexander Porsche. While the Ref.7176 became known as the world’s first all-black PVD-coated wristwatch—born from the spirit of motorsport—the Ref.7177 belongs to the “MILITARY” line, a variant adapted for military applications. The dial bears the markings “PORSCHE DESIGN,” “MILITARY,” and the red “3H” symbol denoting tritium lume, while the caseback is engraved with the reference number. In contrast to the tachymeter inner bezel of the 7176, this model features a 12-hour scale designed for operational practicality. The case is finished in a rare matte grey PVD, giving the watch a rugged and purposeful presence. Inside beats the Lemania Cal.5100, a robust automatic chronograph movement featuring a central 60-minute counter and four centrally mounted hands—a hallmark of utilitarian precision.

The case remains in excellent condition, showing virtually no significant scratches thanks to the PVD coating. The bracelet exhibits minor rubbing and light wear to the coating where it meets the case, but this is subtle and unobtrusive. The dial is in mint condition. This piece has not been serviced.

The Ref.7177 was known to have been issued—officially or semi-officially—to military organizations such as NATO, the British Navy, Swiss Air Force, UAE Air Force, US Air Force, and the Venezuelan Ministry of Defense. However, this particular example bears no military engravings, indicating it was likely a civilian-market version. The model stands as a pivotal piece in Porsche Design’s history, marking the extension of its industrial design philosophy from motorsport into the realm of military functionality. Its exceptional ergonomics, legibility, and form-driven utility embody the brand’s vision of “a watch as a tool for human performance.”
