CARTIER LM Pre Must TANK

ニューヨークタンクに見られる、スクエアのビッグダイヤル。オフホワイトにブラックプリントのローマンインデックスを配し、内側にミニッツトラックが設けられています。ブルースチール製のバトンハンドと、スピネルのカボションがあしらわれたリューズがクラシカルな趣を添えています。ゴールドケースに対し、ブラック・ホワイト・ブルーの配色が鮮やかなコントラストを生み出しています。プレマストモデルは金張りベースにシルバー925ではなく真鍮を用いており、当時ならではの仕様です。カルティエのオリジナルバックルに加え、マストタンク期のバックルも付属します。

ダイヤルにはごくわずかなエイジングが見られますが、全体として均整のとれた印象です。ケースは50年近い歳月を感じさせる風合いをあえて残しており、風防には当時の使用感を物語る小傷や酸化皮膜が見られます。ベルトはクロコダイル製で、マストタンク専用のサイズに合わせて製作されています。装着されているカルティエ純正バックルと相まって、当時の雰囲気をより深く堪能いただけます。弊社にて分解掃除済みです。

「must」表記が入る直前に製造された、いわゆる“プレマスト”と呼ばれる希少な時期のモデルです。初代タンクの意匠を受け継ぎながらも、リューズには円錐状のスピネルが採用され、ヴィンテージらしい雰囲気を高めています。気品と個性を兼ね備えた本モデルは、コレクターズアイテムとしての魅力にとどまらず、装いに確かな存在感をもたらす一本として、本物志向の方にもご満足いただける内容となっています。

現在では、ジュエラーとして名高いカルティエですが、まだ懐中時計が主流だった1904年に本格的な腕時計を製作したのはカルティエが最初でした。「タンク」という名前は、“戦車”を意味し、第一次世界大戦中の終結に貢献したといわれる、ルノー製の戦車がデザインの基となっています。

COMMENT

This elegant piece features an off-white dial adorned with black Roman numerals and an inner minute track, offering a refined sense of balance and legibility. Blued steel baton hands and a cabochon-set spinel crown add a touch of classical charm. The striking contrast between the gold case and the black, white, and blue elements creates a visually captivating composition. Unlike later Must de Cartier models, this pre-Must version uses a brass base for its gold-plated case rather than silver 925, reflecting the period's manufacturing choices. The watch comes with both an original Cartier buckle and an additional buckle from the Must Tank era.

The dial shows only minimal signs of aging and remains well-balanced in appearance. The case retains the character of nearly five decades of age, with deliberate preservation of its original texture. Light scratches and natural oxidation on the crystal reflect the passage of time. The strap is made of crocodile leather and crafted to the unique dimensions of the Must Tank. Paired with the genuine Cartier buckle, it enhances the vintage atmosphere and authenticity. Fully disassembled and serviced by our watchmaker.

This example belongs to the rare and sought-after “pre-Must” period, produced just before the introduction of the “Must” signature on the dial. While inheriting the design cues of the original Tank, this version features a conical spinel-set crown, lending a distinctly vintage aura. Today, Cartier is globally renowned as a jeweler, but it was among the very first to produce a true wristwatch in 1904—at a time when pocket watches still dominated. The "Tank" was named after the Renault tanks used during World War I, which inspired its design and symbolized the hope of peace at the war’s end.
