ダイヤルはホワイトのマット仕上げで、繊細なローマンインデックスとミニッツトラックを組み合わせた構成です。Paris表記が確認できるオリジナルダイヤルであり、ブルースチール製のバトンハンドと相まって、クラシックな趣が際立ちます。ケースは18Kイエローゴールド製。上面にヘアライン、側面とベゼルには鏡面仕上げが施されており、6.4mmという薄型プロポーションとあわせて、ドレスウォッチとして洗練された印象です。尾錠は同素材の18金製。ベルトはラグから尾錠までテーパーせず真っ直ぐに伸びるストレートなシルエットで、この年式には珍しい仕様であり、興味深いポイントです。

ケースはほとんど使用感が見られず、ミントコンディションを保っています。ケースバックの刻印は擦れなく明瞭で、フラットなヘアラインと鏡面ベゼルの切り替えも鮮やかに残っています。ダイヤルは変色や剥がれなどのダメージがなく、針やプリントの色味も当時のまま良好に維持されています。着用歴の少なさが全体から伝わる状態です。弊社にて分解清掃済みです。

本モデルは、1970年代に登場したRef.78097で、1904年に誕生した世界初の男性用腕時計「サントス」の復刻版として位置づけられています。ルイ・カルティエの精神を受け継ぐこの復刻モデルは、1973年に発表された「ルイ・カルティエ・コレクション」の中でも特に人気の高い一本であり、現在では入手困難な存在です。

ビス留めのケースは飛行機のパーツを繋ぐネジがモチーフで、機体をイメージしてダイヤルなどの角がまるみを帯びたデザイン。現在ではジュエラーとして名高いカルティエですが、まだ懐中時計が主流だった1904年に本格的な腕時計を製作したのはカルティエが最初。アルベルト・サントス・デュモンという飛行家からの「飛行中に手を離さずに見ることができる時計がほしい。」という依頼が誕生のきっかけで、「サントス」の名を冠した腕時計が1911年に一般発売されました。

The dial features a matte white finish paired with delicate Roman numerals and a fine minute track—a classic and timeless combination. This original “Paris”-signed dial is further elevated by blued steel baton hands, which lend a refined vintage charm. The case is crafted from 18K yellow gold, with a satin-brushed finish on the top surface and mirror-polished sides and bezel. Measuring just 6.4mm thick, the watch exudes a sleek and dressy presence. The buckle is also made of matching 18K gold, and the strap maintains a rare straight silhouette from lug to clasp without tapering—a unique feature for this era.

The case shows virtually no signs of wear and remains in mint condition. The caseback engravings are crisp and intact, while the transition between the brushed case top and polished bezel is strikingly well preserved. The dial displays no discoloration, flaking, or damage of any kind; the hands and printed details have retained their original tone beautifully. Overall, the piece speaks to its minimal use and careful storage. The watch has been disassembled and cleaned by our team.

This model is the Ref. 78097, introduced in the 1970s as a faithful reissue of the world’s first men’s wristwatch—the Santos, originally created in 1904. Part of the celebrated “Louis Cartier Collection” launched in 1973, it has become one of the most sought-after pieces in the series and is now extremely difficult to find. 

BRAND

The screw-fastened case, reminiscent of airplane parts connecting screws, features a design with rounded corners resembling aircraft bodies, with the screws serving as a motif. While Cartier is renowned today as a jeweler, it was Cartier who pioneered the creation of authentic wristwatches in 1904, when pocket watches were still prevalent. The request from aviator Albert Santos Dumont, "I want a watch that I can easily check while flying without letting go of the controls," led to the creation of the watch named "Santos," which was released to the public in 1911.
