COMMENT

ベゼルは上下に直線を配し、左右に緩やかなカーブを描いた優美なフォルムで構成。二段のステップがその曲線美を一層際立たせています。ダイヤルは艶やかなラッカーホワイトで、ローマンインデックスとレールウェイミニッツの組み合わせがクラシックな印象。シークレットシグネチャーがなく、6時位置には「Paris」の表記。当時の金色針を備えています。手巻きムーブメントならではの薄型ケースは、装着感に優れ、バックルはカルティエ純正の18K無垢ディプロイメントバックルが付属します。現行の折返し式ではない初期仕様のDバックルです。

ケースは目立つ傷がなく、全体的に良好なコンディションです。特徴的なラグは大きな損傷は見られず、ケースサイドからラグにかけての柔らかな曲線が美しく保たれています。ダイヤルは外周に軽微なエイジングがあるものの、大きな変色やダメージはなく良好です。針はわずかなくすみが見られますが、全体として落ち着いたトーンに収まっています。弊社にて分解清掃済みです。

金無垢仕様のEllipse（エリプス）は、楕円形のフォルムに美しさを凝縮した、非常に希少なモデルです。なかでもLMサイズ、PARISダイヤルは市場流通が少なく、入手は困難を極めます。ローマンインデックスとペンシルハンドの組み合わせがクラシックな気品を放ちつつも、他のカルティエモデルとは一線を画す独自性を備えており、その洗練された佇まいが際立っています。当時のダイヤルや針、手の入ってないケースやバックル等、希少性と状態の良さを兼ね備えた一本です。

現在ではジュエラーとして名高いカルティエですが、懐中時計が主流だった1904年に本格的な腕時計製作へと舵を切ったのが同社でした。Ellipseは1970年代に「ルイ・カルティエ コレクション」として発表された12種の新作のひとつ。いずれも高い独自性を備えており、カルティエの創造性と審美眼を世に知らしめた記念碑的なシリーズです

The bezel features an elegant silhouette, with straight lines at the top and bottom and gentle curves along the sides, enhanced by a double-stepped design that emphasizes its sculptural beauty. The lacquered white dial exudes a rich gloss, pairing Roman numerals with a classic railway minute track for a timeless look. Notably, this version lacks the secret signature and instead bears the “Paris” inscription at 6 o'clock. The watch is fitted with its original gold-tone hands. The hand-wound movement allows for a slim case profile, ensuring an exceptionally comfortable fit. It comes with a genuine Cartier solid 18K gold deployant clasp—an early “D”-style buckle, distinct from the current folding types. 

The case is in excellent condition with no noticeable scratches. The distinctive lugs are free of major wear, and the smooth curve from the case sides into the lugs remains beautifully intact. While the dial shows minor aging around the outer edge, it is free from discoloration or damage and retains a clean appearance overall. The hands exhibit only faint patina, presenting a calm and understated tone. The watch has been fully disassembled and cleaned by our team.

The solid gold Ellipse is an exceptionally rare model that embodies Cartier’s sense of refined minimalism through its elliptical form. Among these, the LM-sized “Paris” dial variant is especially hard to come by. With its Roman numeral indices and pencil hands, this watch radiates classical elegance while asserting a distinctive presence that sets it apart from other Cartier pieces. This example—featuring the original dial and hands, an untouched case and clasp—stands out for both its rarity and superb condition.

Cartier, now celebrated worldwide as a premier jeweler, was one of the first to shift from pocket watches to wristwatches in 1904. The Ellipse was introduced in the 1970s as part of the “Louis Cartier Collection,” a series of twelve models that showcased the maison’s creative spirit and design sophistication. Each model reflected a distinct personality, marking a pivotal moment in Cartier’s horological history.
