COMMENT

1964年製造のセイコー・シーホースです。いろんなメーカーで用いられていたシー〇〇というモデルネーム。シーキング、シーレイダー、シーホーク、シードゥエラー、シーウルフ・・・やはりオメガシーマスターの影響でしょうか。ちなみにシーホースは「タツノオトシゴ」の意味ですから、ウルフとかレイダーに比べるとかわいらしいですね。
セイコー好きの方には言うまでもなく62MASこと1stダイバーと瓜二つのダイヤルです。実際、モデル名以外はほぼ同じなのではないかと思えるほどそっくりです。生真面目さが感じられる長方形のインデックス、太めの長短針など、ダイヤル上のオブジェクトが全て長方形で構成されています。すべてが骨太な62MASにはもちろんしっくりきますが、シェイプされたこちらのケースでも意外な完成度を感じます。これ1本でも独自の世界があり非常にたのしめますし、1st持ちの方がそのファミリーに加えるのもまた一興ではないでしょうか。

1960年代は、機械式腕時計は完成期とも言えるほどの発展を遂げた時期で、セイコーは精度コンクールの分野でも量産の分野でも、世界に追いつき、追いぬいた時代であった。同時に、「時計の電子化」が進展し、1969（昭和44）年12月にセイコーが世界初のクオーツ（水晶）腕時計を発売することにより、機械式腕時計からクオーツ腕時計へと大きく舵を切ろうとする時期でもあった。

COMMENT

This is the Seiko Seahorse manufactured in 1964. The model name "Sea something" was commonly used by various manufacturers. Sea King, Sea Raider, Sea Hawk, Sea Dweller, Sea Wolf... Perhaps influenced by the Omega Seamaster. By the way, "Seahorse" means "Tatsunootoshigo" in Japanese, so compared to "Wolf" or "Raider," it's quite cute.

For Seiko enthusiasts, it's needless to say that the dial is identical to the 62MAS, also known as the 1st Diver. In fact, aside from the model name, they are almost identical. The rectangular indexes and thick hands on the dial convey a sense of seriousness, with all the objects on the dial being rectangular in shape. While the robust design of the 62MAS naturally suits it, surprisingly, it also fits well with this shaped case. This watch stands out on its own and provides a lot of enjoyment. Adding it to the collection of someone who already owns a 1st Diver would be a delightful addition to their family of watches.
