COMMENT

ロレックスオーキッド、20年近く製造された名品カメレオンです。1967年製のこちらは珍しいケースです。ダイヤモンドカットされたガラスはよく見ますが、ケースにカッティングを施してある、意欲作です。どこかの面が必ず光を集めますので、角度を変えるとキラキラとし、視覚的に楽しませてくれる造形です。18KYGのケースにゴールドのダイヤルが融合し、アルファハンドとバーインデックスがその色味の調和を崩すことなく、唯一無二の存在感を放っています。

ケースのコンデションは側面に傷が見受けられますが、着用時にはほとんど気にならない程度です。ダイヤルにはエイジングによる若干の変化が見られますが、全体的な印象を損なうほどではありません。針はくすみも少なく、クリアな状態を保っており、優れたコンディションを維持しています。インデックスにはくすみや傷もなく、ロレックスのロゴが光を受けて美しく輝いています。弊社にて分解掃除済みです。

カメレオンの誕生は1950年代。裏蓋にベルトを通すための空間があり、そこにベルトを通すだけで簡単に交換できるようになっています。ロレックスは世界初の試みで特許を取得し、当時の広告に 「the only watch in the world with a WARDROBE（世界で唯一ワードローブを持つ時計）」と謳いました。

レディースロレックスを世に知らしめるきっかけとなった、歴史的アイコンウォッチ。第二次世界大戦が終結し、ニュールックスタイルなどレディースファッションに吹き込んだ新風に乗って、変化自在のカメレオンは当時の著名人に親しまれ、ヨーロッパを中心に女性に絶大な人気を博しました。1960年代にかけてのわずかな期間しか製造されなかったカメレオンは、現在では入手困難な希少品です。

COMMENT

The Rolex Orchid, a revered chameleon model produced for nearly 20 years, is a true masterpiece. This 1967 example features a rare case design. While diamond-cut glass is commonly seen, this particular watch incorporates cutting directly into the case—a daring and innovative approach. The facets of the case catch light from different angles, creating a sparkling effect and offering a visually engaging experience. The 18K yellow gold case and gold dial harmonize perfectly, with the alpha hands and bar indexes maintaining the color balance and giving the watch an unmistakable presence.

The case shows minor wear along the sides, but these imperfections are barely noticeable when worn. The dial shows slight aging, but it doesn’t detract from its overall appearance. The hands remain clear, with minimal tarnishing, and the watch is in excellent condition. The indexes are free from tarnish or scratches, and the Rolex logo shines beautifully in the light. The watch has been fully serviced by us.

The Chameleon was first introduced in the 1950s. The caseback features a space to easily thread the strap, allowing for quick and simple strap changes. Rolex patented this unique feature, marketing it as “the only watch in the world with a WARDROBE.”
