COMMENT

Cラインケースを採用したポールルーターのデイデイトモデル。ダイヤルはマット仕上げによるグレイッシュな青で、落ち着いた雰囲気と個性を兼ね備えています。インデックスはダイバーズウォッチを思わせる幅広のフォルムに、梨地と鏡面のコントラストを加えた構造。内側に配されたドット状の夜光塗料が視認性を高めつつ、機能美のアクセントとなっています。曜日と日付のカレンダー表示は大きめで判読性が高く、視覚的なバランスも整ったデザインです。

ムーブメントには、ユニバーサル・ジュネーブ自社製のマイクロローター（MICROTOR）式自動巻きを搭載。ローターをムーブメント内部に収める構造により、薄さと堅牢性の両立を実現しています。スクリューバック仕様の堅牢なケースとの組み合わせは、視覚的な完成度に加えて高い実用性も備えており、当時としては革新的な構造です。道具としての信頼性と、エレガンスを兼ね備えたユニバーサルらしい一本といえます。

ケースはラグの稜線が明確で、オリジナルの形状を良好に維持しています。上面・側面のヘアライン仕上げも整っており、研磨による崩れは見られません。裏蓋のリファレンスやシリアル刻印も鮮明で、ユニバーサルの個体としては非常に良い状態です。ダイヤルはエイジングがごく穏やかで、当時の色味がそのまま残っています。針はわずかなくすみを見せる程度で、光を受けると控えめな輝きを放ちます。夜光塗料は落ち着いたベージュに変化し、全体にヴィンテージらしい風格を添えています。弊社にて分解清掃済みです。

ポールルーターは、スカンジナビア航空（SAS）の北極航路就航にあたり、パイロットのための耐磁・耐衝撃ウォッチとしてユニバーサル・ジュネーブが開発を担当したことに起源を持ちます。ツールウォッチの起源を持ちながらも、本モデルは造形と仕上げにおいて非常に洗練されており、日常使いにおいても気品を損なわない完成度を備えています。過酷な条件下での信頼性と、視覚的な美しさが高度に融合した、同社の設計哲学を象徴する一本です。

ユニバーサル・ジュネーブの歴史は二人の時計師、エミーユ・デコームとジョルジュ・ペレによって1894年スイスで創業されたところから始まる。高級感溢れるデザインウォッチや複雑時計の製造を得意とし、クロノグラフの名品＜コンパックス＞を開発したことで、その名を時計史に刻んだ名門のブランド。

COMMENT

This Polerouter Day-Date model features the distinctive C-line case, combining strong architectural lines with a refined profile. The dial is a matte greyish-blue, offering both a subdued elegance and a touch of individuality. The wide applied indexes are reminiscent of diver-style watches, combining a bead-blasted surface with polished accents. Luminous dots placed just inside the indexes enhance legibility while adding a subtle sense of utilitarian design. The large-format day and date display is easy to read and well-balanced within the dial layout.

Inside ticks Universal Genève’s in-house MICROTOR automatic movement, a microrotor design that integrates the winding rotor into the movement itself. This innovative architecture allows for a slim profile without sacrificing durability. Paired with a screw-down caseback, the watch offers not only a visually cohesive design but also remarkable robustness — a testament to the brand’s technical ingenuity. This is a piece that combines the tool-watch ethos with understated sophistication.

The case remains in excellent condition, with sharp chamfers and clearly preserved original geometry. The brushed finishing on the top and sides is clean, with no signs of excessive polishing. Caseback engravings, including reference and serial numbers, are crisp — a rare quality for a Universal Genève of this era. The dial shows only light aging, retaining its original tone beautifully. The hands display minimal patina and reflect light with subtle brilliance. The lume has matured to a soft beige, adding vintage charm without compromising the watch’s character. The Polerouter line was born from Universal Genève’s collaboration with Scandinavian Airlines (SAS), created to equip pilots navigating the challenging polar routes. Though conceived as a tool watch, this Day-Date variant demonstrates a high level of refinement in both form and finish. It remains equally at home in rugged environments and refined daily settings — a reflection of Universal’s design philosophy, which marries reliability and elegance in equal measure.
