Ref. 1601 Datejust is a striking timepiece featuring a solid gold fluted bezel, adding to its elegance. Despite being from an era with a long manufacturing period, this particular reference boasts Alpha hands from the early 1960s. The dial, crafted by STERN, is in the highly sought-after black gilt finish, with narrow silver bar indexes providing a sharp contrast against the matte background, along with the minute track. The unique-shaped indexes at 6 o'clock and 9 o'clock, known as doorstop markers, contribute to the popularity of this dial design. The bracelet features a step buckle with a combination of mirror and brushed finishes, and it's equipped with Endlink 55 and Clasp Date 65/4.

It is powered by the precursor Cal.1560 to the 1570. The Cal.1560 introduced the "free-sprung" balance, regulating the timekeeping accuracy by adjusting the inertia moment of the balance wheel, eliminating the need for regulating pins, a first for Rolex. This innovation reduced additional loads on the hairspring, ensuring long-term accuracy stability and isochronism. Achieving this required high-precision part manufacturing and delicate adjustment techniques, showcasing Rolex's technical prowess at the time. The chronometer-grade movement is resilient to shocks and ensures stable accuracy, allowing for worry-free daily wear.
