This 1980s Audemars Piguet dress watch showcases a strikingly geometric design, typical of the era’s pursuit of refinement through form and craftsmanship. The finely executed goldwork that adorns both the bezel and bracelet illustrates the maison’s distinctive blend of innovation and tradition. Crafted entirely in 18K yellow gold, the case evokes the aesthetic of the brand’s famed “Cobra” creations, with the side profile revealing an unbroken visual flow from bracelet to case—an elegant testament to the artistry of its construction. The dial is set with diamond hour markers, adding a subtle and distinguished brilliance. It is powered by the in-house Cal.2080.
The case shows no notable wear, and the hallmarks remain crisp. The dial displays no signs of age, and both hands and diamond-set markers retain their clarity without tarnish. The bracelet exhibits minimal evidence of use, maintaining its supple feel and the distinctive lustre characteristic of solid gold. Fully serviced by our watchmaker.
Audemars Piguet in the 1980s was a period defined by a search for design language beyond the influence of Gérald Genta. The ornamental, sculptural forms seen on this piece represent one of the high points of that pursuit, where craftsmanship and modernity meet in a refined equilibrium. Unlike the maison’s luxury-sport creations, this ultra-thin dress model merges material, form, and technique into a unified aesthetic that borders on jewellery. Combined with the rarity of surviving examples in such outstanding condition, it stands as a true collector’s piece whose significance is likely to continue rising.
