COMMENT

洗練された印象を受ける樽型のCラインケースは、1970年前後のオメガを象徴する造形として知られます。後期に見られるフラットなガラス風防に比べ、本品は前期型ならではのドーム型風防を備え、柔らかな立体感とともにヴィンテージらしい趣が楽しめます。スムースベゼルはフラットな鏡面でまとめられ、ヘアラインのケースとの対比が明確です。18金無垢というラグジュアリーな素材を、スポーティな輪郭で表現している点は魅力です。ダイヤルはツートーン専用の特別なものです。メーカーロゴ、スター、カレンダー窓はシルバーカラー、針も合わせてシルバーカラーになっています。きめの細かいサンレイ仕上げが繊細な質感を伝えます。バーインデックスのセンターとペンシルハンドにはブラックの塗装が入り、読み取りやすさを高めています。カレンダー枠は複雑なカッティングが施され、細部まで意匠の密度が行き届いた顔立ちです。

ケースは全体のプロポーションが整い、面のサテンとエッジの立ち上がりがきれいに残っています。ラグのエッジに見られる鏡面の面取は鮮明で、外装の輪郭を損ねる要素はありません。ダイヤルは美しい状態を維持し、プリントの視認性を妨げる要素が見受けられません。インデックスと針のブラック塗装は剥がれがなく、当時の質感をそのまま伝えています。弊社にて分解清掃済みです。

18Kイエローゴールドのケースにホワイトゴールドベゼルを組み合わせたツートーン仕様は、同系統でも個体数が限られ、弊社でも初めての取り扱いとなります。ケースメーカーはEd. Wenger SA社で、同社はPatek Philippeの重要モデルでもケースを手掛けた名門として知られます。希少なツートーンの意匠に、由緒あるケースメイキングが重なることで、単なる素材価値に留まらない背景の強さが成立しています。

腕時計が普及し始めた1910年代から手巻き、自動巻と変遷を経て、クオーツ時計の開発によって機械式時計が衰退します。それ以前の1960年代に機械式腕時計はひとつのピークに達します。当時は日本でも三種の神器の一つだったオメガの時計。持つ人のステータスとなる高級品で、各メーカーが精度や防水性、耐久性など切磋琢磨し開発した時代。コストをかけて、より良い時計造りのためにしのぎを削っていました。

COMMENT

The refined, barrel-shaped, C-line case is known as a signature design of Omega from around 1970. Compared to the flat glass crystals seen in later models, this model features a domed crystal unique to earlier models, creating a soft, three-dimensional effect and a vintage feel. The smooth bezel has a flat, mirrored finish, creating a clear contrast with the hairline case. The sporty contours of this watch, combined with the luxurious 18k gold material, are a highlight of its appeal. The dial is a special two-tone design. The manufacturer's logo, star, and calendar window are silver, as are the hands. A fine, sunray finish conveys a delicate texture. The center of the bar indexes and the pencil hands are painted black for improved readability. The calendar frame features intricate cutting, creating a look that is meticulously crafted down to the smallest detail.

The case retains well-balanced proportions, with the satin surfaces and crisp edge transitions clearly preserved. The polished bevels along the lugs remain sharp, and there are no elements that detract from the clarity of the exterior lines. The dial remains in beautiful condition, with no issues affecting the legibility of the printing. The black paint on the indexes and hands shows no signs of flaking, faithfully conveying the original texture of the period. Fully serviced by our watchmaker.

This two-tone configuration, combining an 18K yellow gold case with a white gold bezel, is rarely seen even within the same reference, and this marks the first time we have handled such a specification. The case was manufactured by Ed. Wenger SA, a distinguished case maker also known for producing cases for important Patek Philippe models. The rarity of the two-tone design, paired with the pedigree of an esteemed case manufacturer, gives the watch a depth of background that extends well beyond the intrinsic value of its materials.

From the 1910s, when wristwatches began to gain widespread acceptance, through the evolution from manual-wind to automatic movements, mechanical watchmaking advanced steadily before the rise of quartz technology led to a period of decline. In the 1960s, just prior to that shift, the mechanical wristwatch reached one of its peaks. During that era, Omega was regarded in Japan as one of the “three sacred treasures,” a symbol of status and refinement. It was a time when manufacturers competed intensely in the pursuit of greater precision, water resistance, and durability, sparing no expense in the quest to create better watches.
