OMEGA Ref.2493-7 Jumbo Seamaster Black Guilloche Bumper

COMMENT

COMMENT

This is a Ref. 2493 with a black Guilloché dial. Officially, the Ref. 2493 is considered part of the Seamaster line, but neither the dial nor the case carries the Seamaster inscription. The case shape is similar to the earlier or first-generation Seamaster Ref. 2576, and the 2493 features a larger 36.5mm case diameter, making it a jumbo-sized model. The lugs are very long, contributing to a comfortable fit on the wrist. The watch is equipped with Dauphine hands and wedge-shaped indices, with Arabic numerals at the 3, 6, 9, and 12 o'clock positions. The movement is the semi-rotating automatic Cal. 332, allowing the wearer to feel the transition to automatic winding with a satisfying "tick-tock" motion.

The case is in excellent condition, with no significant scratches and a clean overall appearance. The dial has minimal aging. The hands remain free from noticeable damage, retaining their pristine condition. The indices show no tarnishing, although the luminous paint has darkened over time. The watch has been fully disassembled and serviced by our company.

With its sporty dial and striking size, this watch is a rare and exceptional find. The vivid design from the 1950s, combined with the watch's well-preserved condition, allows it to continue exuding the impressive presence it had when originally released.

As wristwatches became popular in the 1910s, evolving from hand-wound to automatic movements, the development of quartz watches eventually led to a decline in mechanical watches. However, in the 1960s, mechanical watches reached a pinnacle. Omega timepieces, considered status symbols in Japan and highly coveted, were seen as luxury items, with brands competing rigorously in areas like accuracy, water resistance, and durability—pushing the boundaries of quality and innovation.
