COMMENT
At first glance, this watch might appear to be a product of the 1970s, but it actually dates from the late 1960s. The boldly textured matte dial, paired with bar indexes and matching baton hands, and a bezel finished with radial brushing, give it a distinctly modernist character. Yet the overall silhouette remains unmistakably aligned with Omega’s 1960s design language—resulting in a beautifully balanced transitional aesthetic. With a clean layout, screw-down caseback, and practical day-date display, this is a highly versatile timepiece.
This case style is more commonly associated with day-date references such as 166.032 or 168.023, but this particular piece is somewhat rarer for featuring only a date function and being powered by the chronometer-grade Caliber 564. The fact that this Seamaster meets chronometer standards, despite not being a Constellation model, adds further intrigue and value.
The case shows light surface wear, but retains its original contours, including the sculpted lugs with organic curvature and crisp transitions. The flat bezel is sharply defined, with clean edges separating it from the brushed case flanks. The dial is in mint condition, with minimal patina and strong contrast. The hands, indexes, and applied Omega logo remain free from oxidation or dullness, reflecting light with crisp brilliance. Fully overhauled by our workshop and ready to wear with confidence.
This Seamaster reveals a thoughtful, unified design vision hidden beneath its minimalist aesthetic. One wonders what inspired its designer—what cultural transitions, technological optimism, or aesthetic cues from the era are expressed here. In today’s market, vintage watches are often judged solely by reference numbers or production years, but the world of vintage Omega offers far more than what’s cataloged. It invites discovery, nuance, and personal connection.
