COMMENT

ダイヤルは発色の良いエナメル質のホワイトにローマ数字を配したカルティエらしいフェイス。艶のあるブラックプリントとブルースチール針が盤面で輝きます。カボションリューズは貴石を配して入るものの、スポーツモデルらしく8角形のスタイリッシュな造形です。ケースはサンレイ仕上げのベゼルが目を引き、アクセントとしてビス止めがされています。

ケースはベゼルが美しく、絹のようなサンレイを維持しております。側面のエッジがしっかりと立っており、見事なコンディションです。ダイヤルはクラックのない状態でエイジングの跡は一切ありません。インデックスのプリントはそのままの状態を維持しています。針はブルースチールのため、くすみのないクリアな状態です。弊社にて分解清掃済みです。

1900年代、飛行士サントス・デュモンが飛行中に時刻を確認できるようカルティエにオーダーしたのが「サントス」の始まり。サントスはオクタゴンが主流ですが、ラウンドケースに包まれたロンドも柔らかい魅力を放ち続けています。

現在ではジュエラーとして名高いカルティエですが、まだ懐中時計が主流だった1904年に本格的な腕時計を製作したのはカルティエが最初でした。アルベルト・サントス・デュモンという飛行家からの「飛行中に手を離さずに見ることができる時計がほしい。」という依頼が誕生のきっかけで、「サントス（SANTOS）」の名を冠した腕時計が1911年に一般発売されました。

COMMENT

The dial features Cartier’s signature aesthetic—crisp white enamel with bold Roman numerals, paired with glossy black print and radiant blued steel hands that gleam against the surface. The cabochon-set crown, adorned with a gemstone, is rendered in a sporty octagonal shape, adding a touch of modern elegance. The bezel is finished with a sunray pattern that catches the light beautifully, secured by visible screws for a refined, industrial accent.

The case is in exceptional condition, with the bezel retaining its silky sunray finish. The edges of the case sides remain sharp and well-defined, underscoring the watch’s outstanding preservation. The dial is pristine, with no signs of aging or cracks, and the printed Roman numerals are perfectly intact. The blued steel hands are clear and untarnished. Fully serviced by our workshop.

Originally created at the request of pioneering aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont, the Cartier Santos line was designed to allow easy time reading during flight. While the Santos is best known in its octagonal form, the softer charm of the round-cased "Ronde" continues to stand out as a distinctive and elegant alternative.

Today renowned as one of the world’s leading luxury jewelers, Cartier was also a trailblazer in wristwatch design. In 1904, when pocket watches were still the norm, Cartier produced one of the first modern wristwatches. The timepiece was created for Brazilian aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont, who requested a watch he could read while flying without removing his hands from the controls. This led to the birth of the "Santos" watch, which was released to the public in 1911 and has since become an enduring icon of horological design.
