JAEGER LECOULTRE MEMOVOX Ref.E855 w.Original Gay Frères Bracelet

COMMENT

COMMENT

The Memovox Ref. E855 is one of the most iconic expressions of the line, combining a clean round case with Jaeger-LeCoultre’s signature alarm mechanism—a distinctive blend of functional beauty and refined design. The dial features a concentric layout with an outer minutes track and an inner alarm disc, delivering both clarity and visual sophistication. The subtle depth of the dial remains elegantly composed throughout. The twin crowns, positioned symmetrically on either side, form the quintessential Memovox silhouette, offering intuitive operation for both timekeeping and alarm settings. This example is fitted with a rare period-correct Gay Frères bracelet, originally supplied to JLC, whose smooth, integrated flow enhances the visual coherence of the watch.

The case retains sharp edges and presents in well-preserved condition with no major damage. The dial shows an even, calm tone with crisp printing on the alarm disc and indexes. The hands and indexes display natural aging while maintaining their texture and legibility. The lume has aged to an attractive beige tone. Fully serviced by our watchmaker.

As a dress watch equipped with an alarm function, the E855 occupies a distinctive position within mid-century watch design. It represents the meeting point of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s technical mastery and the aesthetic sensibilities of the era. Its combination of practicality, thoughtful design, and the presence of an original period Gay Frères bracelet gives this example considerable appeal as a collector’s piece.

BRAND

Jaeger-LeCoultre is a true manufacture, known for producing a wide range of distinctive and technically accomplished models. Historically, the brand supplied movements and ébauches to other prestigious houses—including Vacheron Constantin, Audemars Piguet, Patek Philippe, and Cartier. Its origins trace back to 1183 in a small workshop in Switzerland, founded on a devotion to scientific precision and the creation of reliable mechanisms and production systems. From these foundations, Jaeger-LeCoultre grew into a leading supplier of advanced movements and components in the heart of Swiss watchmaking. Today, with emblematic in-house creations such as the Reverso, it stands among the few remaining manufactures that design and produce their own movements.
