COMMENT

アラビアの3・6・9・12インデックスがスポーティな印象を与えるチュードル・オイスター。彫り込みによるすり鉢状のパターンは、同年代に製造された「タキシードダイヤル」を彷彿とさせる意匠で、当時としても高いコストをかけた構造です。ダイヤル中央と外周はマット仕上げで、一段下がったシルバーの彫り込み部分と絶妙なコントラストを成し、クロスラインやミニッツの配置が凝縮感を引き立てます。立体的なインデックスはフラットトップのアラビア数字が特徴で、角ばったフォントがヴィンテージ感を強調。ゴールドのインデックスに赤い秒針を組み合わせた配色は、1950年代らしいテイストを色濃く反映しています。

ケースはプロポーションが良好で、目立つ打痕がなく、ラグのバランスは整っています。ダイヤルはエイジングによりホワイトが程よく焼け、彫り込み部分はシャンパンカラーに変化。インデックスはメッキの剥がれが見られず、光を受けてみずみずしく輝きます。針は状態が良く、夜光塗料は理想的なベージュカラーに経年変化しています。弊社にて分解掃除済みです。

1930年代にROLEXのディフュージョンブランドとして誕生。ブランド名の由来は、エリザベス1世を輩出したイギリスの王家の一つ＜チューダー家＞にちなんで付けられました。誰もが知っている王家の名前をブランド名にすることで、イギリス庶民に親しまれるブランドとして定着させることが狙いでした。この点からも＜TUDOR（チュードル）＞がイギリスでの展開を意識したブランドということを感じ取ることができます。思惑通り＜TUDOR＞は認知度が低かったにROLEXの普及モデルとして、イギリスの一般庶民に受け入れられ知名度をどんどん上げていきました。最大の強みは低価格でありながら、文字盤やリューズ、裏蓋といった大半パーツにROLEXのパーツが使われているということです。

COMMENT

This Tudor Oyster features Arabic numerals at 3, 6, 9, and 12, giving it a distinctly sporty character. The recessed sector dial—with a bowl-shaped contour created through engraving—recalls the “Tuxedo” dials produced in the same era, a design that involved considerable production cost at the time. The center and outer sections of the dial are matte, while the silver-toned recessed ring sits slightly lower, offering a beautiful contrast. The crosshair and minute track layout add a sense of precision and visual density. The raised indexes feature flat-top Arabic numerals rendered in a sharp, angular font, enhancing the vintage feel. The gold-colored indexes are complemented by a red seconds hand, a striking and unmistakably 1950s color scheme.

The case maintains excellent proportions, with no notable dings or dents, and the lugs are well-balanced. The dial has aged gracefully, with the original white surface taking on a warm tone, while the recessed portion has mellowed into a champagne hue. The indexes show no loss of plating and still reflect light with vibrant clarity. The hands are in fine condition, and the luminous material has aged to an ideal beige tone. The movement has been fully disassembled and cleaned by our workshop.

By choosing a name associated with royalty, ROLEX aimed to create a brand that would resonate with the British public. As intended, TUDOR gained popularity in the UK, especially as an accessible alternative to ROLEX, offering excellent quality at a lower price point.

TUDOR watches often shared key components with ROLEX, including the dial, crown, and caseback. This close connection, combined with affordability, helped the brand gain traction and recognition, particularly among everyday consumers in Britain.
