COMMENT

オメガのレジェンド、スピードマスターRef.105.003です。1世代前のRef.2998ではアルファ型だった時分針が、こちらではバータイプに変更され、視認性と現代性が高められています。後継のRef.145.012との最大の違いは、リューズガードを備えず、ストレートラグを採用している点です。このケース形状は無骨で力強い雰囲気を持ち、スピードマスター本来のツールウォッチらしさを色濃く残しています。ムーブメントは伝説的なCal.321を搭載。ピラーホイール式クロノグラフやチラネジテンプ、巻き上げヒゲなど、高級機ならではの設計思想が凝縮されています。ブレスレットは日本で“キャタピラー”と呼ばれるRef.7912、エンドリンク6、クラスプデイト65/1が装着されています。

ケースはベゼルに傷こそありますが、全体としては大きな打痕がなく、好印象を与えるコンディションです。ダイヤルはマットな質感を保ち、エイジングによる劣化はほとんど見られません。針はホワイトを保ち、クリアな印象を維持。針と夜光インデックスはベージュに変化し、ヴィンテージらしい味わいを加えています。弊社にて分解清掃済みです。

NASA公式採用によってその名を轟かせたスピードマスターですが、Ref.105.003は“プレ・ムーン”期を代表する歴史的モデルとして特別な位置を占めます。オリジナル性の高さと良好なコンディションを備えた本個体は、単なるヴィンテージを超えて、現代においても洗練された存在感を放ちます。実用性と意匠性を兼ね備えた、まさにコレクターズピースにふさわしい逸品です。

今でこそ「Speedmasterイコール宇宙」という図式がすぐに浮かび上がりますが、当時は宇宙とは全く関係のない、純粋なモータースポーツ用の時計として誕生。また、スピードマスターは、ダイヤルではなく外周ベゼルにタキメーターを表示した世界で初めての時計と言われています。1959年、スピードマスターはマイナーチェンジをします。ベゼルがアルミニウムの黒色ベースとなり、針の形状がアロー針からアルファ針に変更されたことで、より視認性が高まっています。NASAは宇宙での過酷な環境にも耐えうる丈夫なクロノグラフを探しており、名だたる強豪に勝ったスピードマスターを公式時計として採用。その後1969年人類初の月面着陸の際、スピードマスターを着用していたことは有名な話。

The Omega Speedmaster Ref.105.003 is a true legend in the brand’s history. Compared to its predecessor, the Ref.2998, where the hour and minute hands were of the alpha style, the 105.003 adopts straight baton hands, enhancing both legibility and modernity. One of the most significant distinctions from its successor, the Ref.145.012, is the lack of crown guards, paired with straight lugs. This case design preserves a raw, tool-like presence that embodies the essence of the Speedmaster as a professional instrument. At its heart beats the legendary Cal.321, a column-wheel chronograph movement with a screwed balance and Breguet overcoil hairspring—hallmarks of high-grade watchmaking. The bracelet is the Ref.7912, affectionately called the “Caterpillar” in Japan, complete with No.6 end links and a clasp stamped 65/1.

The case, while showing some marks on the bezel, is free of major dents and retains a pleasing, well-preserved profile. The matte dial is remarkably well-kept, displaying little to no signs of aging. The hands remain crisp white, maintaining a clean look, while the luminous plots and indices have aged gracefully to a warm beige, lending authentic vintage character. Celebrated as the official NASA-approved chronograph, the Speedmaster’s reputation is firmly tied to space exploration. Yet, the Ref.105.003 holds a special place as one of the defining “pre-Moon” references, representing the Speedmaster’s identity before its lunar legacy. While today the name “Speedmaster” is synonymous with space exploration, the model was originally created purely as a motorsport chronograph. Notably, the Speedmaster was the first watch to feature a tachymeter scale on the bezel rather than the dial—now a standard design convention. In 1959, it underwent its first major update, with the bezel switching to a black aluminum insert and the hands transitioning from arrow to Alpha shapes for better legibility. In the early 1960s, NASA began searching for a chronograph capable of withstanding the extreme conditions of space. The Speedmaster outperformed its competitors and was officially certified for manned space missions. When the Apollo 11 astronauts landed on the Moon in 1969, it was the Speedmaster they wore—forever cementing its place in horological and human history.
