1970年代前半に製造された、通称「56GS」と呼ばれるグランドセイコー Ref.5646-7010です。ケース上面からラグへと連続する力強い面構成と、鏡面仕上げの細いベゼルを組み合わせた、グランドセイコーらしいシャープな造形が特徴。明るいシルバーホワイトダイヤルには、立体的なバーインデックスと細身のバトンハンドを配置し、夜光塗料を用いない端正なデザインにまとめています。3時位置には曜日と日付を横並びに表示するデイデイト窓を備え、曜日は日本語と英語を切り替えて使用できます。

ケースには使用に伴う細かな擦り傷が見られますが、ベゼル外周からラグへと続く稜線や各面の切り替えは明瞭に残り、56GS特有のプロポーションを良好に維持しています。ダイヤルは目立つ変色や傷がなく、シルバーホワイトの清潔感ある色調と繊細な質感を保っています。針、インデックス、アプライドの「SEIKO」「GS」ロゴにも目立つくすみはなく、各部のプリントも鮮明です。裏蓋には多少の使用傷が見られるものの、中央の金色のGSメダリオンは欠損なく現存しています。GSマーク入りの純正リューズも装着されています。弊社にて分解清掃済みです。

ムーブメントは諏訪精工舎が製造した自動巻Cal.5646Aを搭載。毎時28,800振動のハイビート、25石、秒針停止機能に加え、曜日と日付の早送り機構を備えた実用性の高いキャリバーです。56GSはクォーツ時計が急速に普及していく時代に登場し、初期グランドセイコーにおける機械式モデルの最終世代を担いました。薄型の自動巻ムーブメントと端正なケースデザイン、視認性に優れたデイデイト表示を組み合わせた本作は、日常で扱いやすい実用時計でありながら、国産機械式時計が成熟期に到達したことを感じさせる一本です。

Produced in the early 1970s, this Grand Seiko Ref.5646-7010 belongs to the series commonly known as the “56GS.” Its sharply defined case features strong surfaces flowing continuously from the upper case into the lugs, complemented by a slim polished bezel. The bright silver-white dial is fitted with applied baton indexes and slender baton hands. The absence of luminous material gives the dial a clean, composed appearance. A horizontal day-date display is positioned at 3 o’clock, with the day selectable in either Japanese or English.

The case shows fine scratches from use, though the defined lines extending from the outer edge of the bezel into the lugs and the transitions between the various surfaces remain clear, preserving the characteristic proportions of the 56GS. The dial is free from noticeable discoloration or damage and retains its clean silver-white tone and delicate texture. The hands, indexes, and applied “SEIKO” and “GS” emblems show no significant tarnishing, while the printed details remain crisp. The case back displays some scratches from use, though the gold-tone GS medallion remains intact. The original GS-signed crown is also fitted. Fully serviced by our watchmaker.

Inside is the automatic Cal.5646A, produced by Suwa Seikosha. This practical 25-jewel movement operates at a high-beat frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and features hacking seconds together with quick-set day and date functions. The 56GS appeared as quartz watches were rapidly gaining prominence and formed part of the final generation of mechanical models within the original Grand Seiko era. Combining a slim automatic movement, well-proportioned case, and highly legible day-date display, this example offers practical everyday usability while reflecting the maturity achieved by Japanese mechanical watchmaking at the time.
