COMMENT

 オメガのレジェンド、スピードマスター4thの前期モデルです。NASAの正式採用となり、「PROFESSIONAL」の名が文字盤に登場しています。3rdからのアップグレードは、竜頭ガードのためケースが左右非対称に、ラグがツイストしたデザインになりました。Cal.321は後のCal.861のカム式と違い、ピラーホイール式のため、コスト高で、チラネジテンプに巻き上げヒゲと高級仕様です。
白いアクセント付きのブラックダイヤルは、優れたコントラストをサプライ。30分、12時間、スモールセコンドのサブダイヤルの組み合わせ、2重構造のケースバック、42mmケースなど、伝説のムーンウォッチは完全な当時のディテールを持っています。ケースはHuguenin Freres製。貴重な1039キャタピラブレスを装備しています。

ケースは軽い使用傷が見られますが、ツイストラグのエッジが立っており迫力を感じます。ベゼルは部分的にグレーにフェード化したエイジングがカッコいいです。剥がれは軽度で数字が視認しやすいのは高ポイントです。キャタピラブレスは擦れ傷がありますが、伸びがほぼありません。ダイアルや針は劣化や傷のないパーフェクトな状態。アプライドのロゴは綺麗な鏡面反射を見せています。濃いめのベージュに焼けたトリチウムは均一で、稀に見る美しいエイジングです。

実用としては、もちろん理想的な高級時計であり、時計コレクションの世界でも、オメガのスピードマスターは優れたタイムピースです。

今でこそ「Speedmasterイコール宇宙」という図式がすぐに浮かび上がりますが、当時は宇宙とは全く関係のない、純粋なモータースポーツ用の時計として誕生。また、スピードマスターは、ダイヤルではなく外周ベゼルにタキメーターを表示した世界で初めての時計と言われています。1959年、スピードマスターはマイナーチェンジをします。ベゼルがアルミニウムの黒色ベースとなり、針の形状がアロー針からアルファ針に変更されたことで、より視認性が高まっています。NASAは宇宙での過酷な環境にも耐えうる丈夫なクロノグラフを探しており、名だたる強豪に勝ったスピードマスターを公式時計として採用。その後1969年人類初の月面着陸の際、スピードマスターを着用していたことは有名な話。

This is the early model of the Speedmaster 4th generation, a legend in the Omega lineup. It bears the "PROFESSIONAL" label on the dial, signifying its official adoption by NASA. Upgrades from the 3rd generation include asymmetrical casing due to the addition of crown guards, and twisted lugs for a unique design. Unlike the later Cal.861, the Cal.321 movement features a column wheel design, known for its high cost and luxurious finishing with Geneva stripes and gold chatons.

The black dial with white accents provides excellent contrast, featuring subdials for 30 minutes, 12 hours, and small seconds. Retaining the original details, such as the dual-layer case back and 42mm case size, this Moonwatch remains a true classic. The case is manufactured by Huguenin Freres, and it comes equipped with the rare 1039 "Catawiki" bracelet.

While the case shows minor signs of wear, the sharp edges of the twisted lugs evoke a powerful presence. The partially faded gray bezel aging adds a touch of character. The light wear ensures legibility of the numbers, which is a high point. Despite some scratches, the Catawiki bracelet has minimal stretch. The dial and hands are in perfect condition, with the applied logo exhibiting a beautiful mirrored reflection. The aged tritium, with its uniform deep beige tone, showcases a rare and stunning patina.

In terms of practicality, this Speedmaster remains an ideal luxury timepiece, and in the world of watch collections, Omega's Speedmaster stands out as an exceptional timepiece.

While today the equation "Speedmaster equals space" is immediately apparent, it's essential to remember its origins as a pure motorsport watch with no association to space. Additionally, the Speedmaster is celebrated as the first watch to feature a tachymeter on the outer bezel, departing from the traditional dial display. The 1959 minor change introduced an aluminum black base for the bezel and changed the needle shape from arrow to alpha, enhancing visibility. NASA's quest for a robust chronograph capable of withstanding the harsh conditions of space led to the selection of the Speedmaster over numerous competitors. The iconic moment of the Speedmaster being worn during the first manned moon landing in 1969 further solidified its status as the official watch for space exploration.
