COMMENT

オメガの角型ムーブメントT17を搭載したレクタンギュラーモデル。オメガの中で種類の少ない角型ムーブメントの1つ、T17は30年代らしい古典的なムーブメントです。銀色メッキの受け、オーバーコイルに温度補正用の切りテンプと繊細な技術が詰まっています。アンクルの形が変わっており、狭い機械に収める為のいびつな形状に、重心を安定させる工夫がなされています。レトロモダンな雰囲気の漂う文字盤は手が込んでいます。サークル状のミニッツトラックと放射状に配したインデックスにより、広がりが感じられる意匠です。時針の根元が角形の珍しいデザインは同系統のレクタングルで時折見られるものです。腕に沿ってゆるくカーブした裏蓋は着け心地が良いです。

ダイヤルはホワイトカラー、年式や非防水であることを考慮すれば、良い状態と言えます。ブルースチールの針は3本とも発色良く残り、入水が少なかった経緯を感じます。当時稀少であった高級素材のステイブライトケースは、多数小傷がある状態ですが、2重のケースが当時のまま残っています。

弊社で分解掃除を済ませていますので、48時間以上のパワーリザーブを確認しています。世代が古くとも、きちんとした整備を施すことで、使用し易くなります。ただクラシックと言うだけでなく、どこかモダンな雰囲気の漂ったオメガはいかがでしょうか。

腕時計が普及し始めた1910年代から手巻き、自動巻と変遷を経て、クオーツ時計の開発によって機械式時計が衰退します。それ以前の1960年代に機械式腕時計はひとつのピークに達します。当時は日本でも三種の神器の一つだったオメガの時計。持つ人のステータスとなる高級品で、各メーカーが精度や防水性、耐久性など切磋琢磨し開発した時代。コストをかけて、より良い時計造りのためにしのぎを削っていました。

COMMENT

A rectangular model featuring Omega's angular movement, the T17. The T17 is one of the less common angular movements in Omega's repertoire, embodying the classical style of the 1930s. The silver-plated receiver, overcoil, temperature-compensating cut balance, and delicate craftsmanship are highlights of this vintage movement. The unique shape of the balance wheel's anchor, designed to fit into a narrow mechanism, showcases ingenuity to stabilize the center of gravity. The retro-modern dial exudes a sophisticated atmosphere, with a circular minute track and radial indexes providing a sense of expansion. The unusual design of the hour hand's base being angular is occasionally observed in the same series of rectangles. The gently curved case back, following the wrist, enhances wearing comfort.

The dial is in good condition for a watch of this era. The blued steel hands remain vibrant, indicating minimal exposure to water. The Stabrite case, a luxury material rare at the time, exhibits numerous small scratches but retains its original double case structure.

Having undergone disassembly and cleaning at our facility, the watch has been confirmed to have a power reserve of over 48 hours. Despite its age, proper maintenance enhances usability. This Omega, with its classic yet somewhat modern appeal, is worth considering.

From the early 1910s, when wristwatches began to gain popularity, through the transitions from manual winding to automatic winding, and the subsequent decline of mechanical watches due to the development of quartz watches in the 1960s, mechanical wristwatches reached a peak in the 1960s. Omega, one of the Three Great Watches in Japan at the time, was a status symbol, representing luxury and pushing each manufacturer to compete in precision, water resistance, durability, and other aspects of watchmaking. It was an era where considerable effort and cost were invested in creating better timepieces.
