現在ではジュエラーとして名高いカルティエだが、まだ懐中時計が主流だった1904年に本格的な腕時計を製作したのはカルティエが最初でした。

Cartier is now a renowned jeweler, but Cartier was the first to produce a full-scale wristwatch in 1904, when pocket watches were still the norm.

飛行家アルベルト・サントス・デュモンからの
「飛行中に手を離さずに見ることができる時計がほしい。」
という依頼が誕生のきっかけで、「サントス（SANTOS）」の名を冠した
世界初の腕時計サントスデュモンが1911年に一般発売されました。

サントスデュモンの四角いケースのデザインは当時としてはユニークで、
ベゼルの周りに露出したネジがガラスを固定している構造です。
ここから数十年にわたり、カルティエはサントスコレクションを展開してきました。

From aviator Alberto Santos Dumont.
"I want a watch that I can look at while flying without taking my hands off the wheel.
The world's first wristwatch bearing the name "Santos", Santos-Dumont was launched to the public in 1911.

The square case design of the Santos Dumont was unique for its time, with exposed screws around the bezel holding the glass in place. From this point on, Cartier has continued to develop the Santos collection over the decades.

1978年から、大きくブランドの方向性を変化させます。

1978年10月20日。アルベルト・サントス＝デュモンの飛行機、ドゥモワゼルが展示してあるパリの航空博物館にてサントスの新作が発表されました。

パテックフィリップのノーチラス、オーデマピゲのロイヤルオークから始まった、ステンレスブレスレットの付属したラグジュアリースポーツウォッチのトレンドの真っ只中、カルティエはサントスをスポーツウォッチとして発表しました。
カルティエはスチールを使用した時計を今まで作ったことはありませんでしたが、ゴールドのアクセントを加えることで独自の意匠を獲得しました。

After 1978, Santos changed direction dramatically.
October 20, 1978. A new Santos watch is presented at the Aviation Museum in Paris, where Alberto Santos-Dumont's plane "Demoiselle" is on display.

Amidst the trend for luxury sports watches with bracelets that began with Patek Philippe's Nautilus and Audemars Piguet's Royal Oak, Cartier introduces the Santos as a sports watch.
Cartier had never made a watch in steel before, but by adding gold accents, it acquired a unique design.

サントス（四角形）、オクタゴン（八角形）、ラウンド（丸）
のケースバリエーションを展開しました。

しかし1987年、

サントスがサントスガルべへと、リニューアルされると同時に、

オクタゴンとラウンドは展開を終了しました。

18金無垢サントスオクタゴンは

ステンレスが時計に多く用いられた時代に製造されたものであり、

生産数が少なく希少です。　

弊社では完璧なコンディションでの発掘に成功し、整備を施しました。

サントスならではの防水性を高めたケース構造と、

この個体独自のリューズの意匠、ブレスレットの仕組みに合わせて解説します。

SANTOS含め、エナメル質の塗料を多く用いたカルティエの文字盤は

経年でクラックと呼ばれるヒビが入ることが知られています。

クラックのない'SWISS'ダイヤルは希少です。

Hand

ブルースチールのバトンです。

カルティエの多くのモデルに採用されています。

2針のモデルが多い中、サントスオクタゴンは3針です。

Crown

7角形のリューズにブルーサファイアの貴石を搭載したカボジョンリューズです。

ブルーサファイアは丸みを帯びた通常のオクタゴンに比べ、

尖り、多角的なカットを施した特別なものです。

This is a cabochon crown with a blue sapphire precious stone mounted on a 7-square crown.
The blue sapphire is rounded, compared to the usual santos octagon,
pointed and polygonal cut, it is a special one.

　

Movement

一般普及しているETA2671のムーブメントをベースに、

CARTIERらしい美しい装飾を施しています。

安定感のあるムーブメントは、パーツの入手も容易で

メンテナンスに関して安心です。

Based on the popular ETA2671 movement,

The movement has a sense of stability, and parts are easy to obtain.

Case

Santosのアイデンティティとも言える、ネジ留めベゼルです。

ベゼルのネジでガラスを押さえ込み、パッキンに圧力をかけます。

機械を取り出す際は、これらを分解する必要があります。

The bezel is screwed on, which is the identity of Santos.
The bezel screws hold the glass in place and apply pressure to the gasket.
These must be disassembled when removing the movement.

左下 : 時計を上から見た時、ガラスの縁のように見える、見切りリング

ケースメーカーはCristalor SA。

スイスはRenanで創業し、ケースメーカーとして1956年から1992年までの間に活躍しました。

The case manufacturer is Cristalor SA.
Switzerland was founded in Renan and was active as a case manufacturer from 1956 to 1992.

　

Case Back

特徴的な防水性を高めるためのワンピース構造はミドルケースと
裏蓋が一体整形で、時計の裏側には隙間がありません。

パッキンとガラスをベゼルのネジで締め込んで、防水性を高めています。

カルティエのロゴと、18金無垢を表すホールマークが確認できます。

The one-piece structure that increases the characteristic waterproofness is combined with the middle case.
The back cover is integrally formed, and there are no gaps on the back of the watch.
The gasket and glass are tightened with bezel screws to increase waterproofness.

　

Bracelet

18金無垢のブレスレット。

ホールマークは以下の通りです。

　駒同士の接合が特殊です。
コマの裏側をネジで固定しています。

The joint between the pieces is special.
It is a special specification that is fixed with screws on the back side of the coma.

外す際は、ネジを緩めて、横にスライドさせます。

　スライドタイプの次世代には横からネジで止めるタイプが主流になりますが

構造上、この旧タイプが破損が少なく丈夫です。
