JAPANESE CHRONOGRAPH
Japanese chronographs developed rapidly from the late 1960s through the 1970s. Led by Seiko and Citizen, the technology evolved from manually wound to automatic movements, giving rise to a wide range of models designed with sports timing in mind.
Vintage examples include Seiko’s Cal. 6139 and 6138 families, Citizen automatic chronographs, and numerous watches distinguished by bold case designs, colorful dials, and rotating bezels. Emerging during a period of rapid global development in automatic chronographs, these watches represent an important chapter shaped by distinctly Japanese engineering and design.
