JAPANESE DIVER

Japanese dive watches developed rapidly from the mid-1960s, beginning with Seiko’s 62MAS in 1965. This was followed by models such as the 6215, 6159, and 600m Professional, each introducing distinctive Seiko technologies including high-beat movements, monocoque cases, and protective outer shrouds. Seiko occupies a central place in the history of Japanese dive watches.

At the same time, other domestic manufacturers, including Citizen, produced highly practical divers with distinctive case constructions and strong water resistance. In vintage examples, differences in bezels, luminous material, dials, and case design reveal each maker’s individual approach, offering a broad view of the functionality and originality that define Japanese dive watches.
