1965年に生産された国産初の150m防水ダイバーズウォッチ、Ref.6217-8001。通称「62MAS」として知られ、国内外で高い評価を受ける名作です。バリエーションが複数存在しますが、本個体は1966年から67年にかけて約1年間のみ製造された、ビッグリューズ仕様にイルカのケースバックを備えたタイプ。こちらは、1967年2月に仕様が切り替わる直前にあたる、イルカの刻印が深い第二世代のものです。ケースは角ばったCライン、ベゼルは両方向回転式、裏蓋はスクリューバック構造。グレーのサンレイダイヤルが、落ち着きと深みのある印象を与えています。ムーブメントには手巻き機構を持たない全自動巻きのCal.6217Aを搭載。リューズを一段引くことで日付のクイックチェンジが可能な、実用性に優れた仕様です。

ケースはエッジが立った素晴らしいコンディションで、打ち傷は見られず、オリジナルのプロポーションを存分に堪能できます。ベゼルは適度な小傷が見られ、インサートは若干の塗料剥がれがありますが、全体としては良好な印象です。ダイヤルは傷やくすみのないミントに近い状態を維持しており、針はくすみがなく、光沢を湛えた視認性の高い仕上がりです。針・インデックスの夜光塗料はやや色味が変化していますが、崩れはなく、ヴィンテージとして理想的な保存状態といえます。弊社にて分解清掃済みです。

Produced in 1965, the Ref. 6217-8001 is Japan’s first 150-meter water-resistant dive watch. Known by the nickname “62MAS,” it is widely celebrated both domestically and internationally as a landmark model. While several variations exist, this particular piece is the rare type produced for just about one year between 1966 and 1967, featuring a large crown and dolphin caseback. The dolphin engraving on this example is the deeper second-generation version, dating right before the transition that occurred in February 1967. The case is defined by sharp C-line contours, paired with a bidirectional rotating bezel and screw-down caseback. Its grey sunburst dial exudes depth and composure. Inside beats the fully automatic Cal. 6217A, which forgoes a manual winding function but offers a practical quick-set date via a single crown pull.

The case is in excellent condition, retaining sharp edges and free from impact marks, allowing the original proportions to be appreciated in full. The bezel shows minor wear and the insert has slight paint loss, but overall, the impression remains strong. The dial is near mint with no visible marks or haze, and the hands maintain their original gloss, offering superb legibility. The luminous material on both hands and indexes has aged slightly in tone but remains intact, making this a textbook example of well-preserved vintage condition. The watch has been fully disassembled and cleaned by our team.

Details such as the unguarded large crown and dolphin-engraved caseback are highly desirable among vintage dive watch enthusiasts. The 62MAS laid the foundation for Seiko’s legendary dive watch lineage, paving the way for iconic models such as the Uemura Diver and the 63 Diver. As the origin of Seiko’s dive watch history, it holds exceptional significance.
