SEIKO Ref.6217-8000は、1965年に登場した国産初の150mダイバーズウォッチとして知られる、通称「62MAS」です。自動巻Cal.6217Aを搭載し、150m防水、デイト表示、太い針と大型インデックスを備えた実用的な設計は、のちのセイコーダイバーズの原点となりました。ダイヤルはグレーのサンレイ仕上げで、角度によって黒味を帯びた深い表情を見せます。アプライドのSEIKOロゴ、フレーム付きの大型インデックス、太いバーハンド、先端に夜光を配した秒針など、ダイバーズウォッチとしての視認性を重視した構成です。6時側には「WATER 150 PROOF」「DIASHOCK 17 JEWELS」の表記が入り、初期セイコーダイバーらしい力強い雰囲気をよく残しています。

ケースは使用に伴う小傷が見られますが、ラグからケースサイドにかけてのエッジやヘアラインがしっかりと保たれています。ベゼルには経年による褪色や擦れが見られ、ヴィンテージダイバーらしい味わいを深めています。ダイヤルは大きな傷みがなく、サンレイの質感も良好です。インデックスと針の夜光は自然な色味に変化しており、全体として均整の取れたコンディションを保っています。弊社にて分解掃除済みです。

Ref.6217-8000は初期のスモールクラウン仕様で、1965年4月から6月頃までの短期間に生産されたとされる希少なバリエーションです。本個体は1965年5月製造にあたる、最初期の一本です。初期スモールクラウンの希少性に加え、セイコーダイバーズの出発点を示す一本として、コレクション性の高い個体です。

The SEIKO Ref.6217-8001, introduced in 1965, was Japan’s first domestically produced diver’s watch with 150m water resistance. Commonly known as the “62MAS,” it is a highly regarded model among collectors both in Japan and overseas. Several variations exist, and this example is the type produced for approximately one year from 1966 to 1967, featuring the large crown and dolphin caseback. The case has an angular C-line form, the bezel rotates bidirectionally, and the caseback uses a screw-back construction. The grey sunburst dial gives the watch a calm and deep impression. It is powered by the Cal.6217A, a fully automatic movement without manual winding. The date can be quick-set by pulling the crown to the first position, adding practical usability.

The case is in excellent condition, with sharply defined edges and no visible dents, allowing the original proportions to be fully appreciated. The bezel shows moderate small scratches, and the insert has slight paint loss, but the overall impression remains good. The dial is close to mint condition, with no noticeable scratches or oxidation. The hands are free from dullness and retain a glossy, highly legible finish. The luminous material on the hands and indexes has developed slight tonal change, but remains intact, making this an ideal state of preservation for a vintage example. Details such as the large unguarded crown and the dolphin-engraved caseback are especially desirable among vintage diver’s watch collectors. Beginning with the 62MAS, Seiko went on to produce a series of important diver’s watches, including the Uemura diver and the 63 diver. As the starting point of Seiko’s diver’s watch history, this is an exceptionally important piece.
