TANK
Introduced in 1917, the TANK is one of Cartier’s most iconic wristwatches. Its linear case, said to have been inspired by the shape of a military tank viewed from above, and the parallel lines extending from the case sides into the lugs went on to influence generations of rectangular watch design.
Vintage TANK watches reveal a wide range of variations in case size and proportion, Roman numerals, chemin de fer minute tracks, and blued-steel hands, depending on the period and place of manufacture. Despite its apparent simplicity, the design is exceptionally refined, making the TANK one of Cartier’s most enduring and recognizable collections.
