オメガのレジェンド、スピードマスターRef.2998です。リューズガードが無く、ラグがストレートで、無骨な雰囲気のケース形状をしています。シルバーカラーのアルファハンドはヴィンテージスピードマスターならではの趣です。日本ではキャタピラーと称されるフラットリンクブレスレットは、Ref.7912とエンドリンク6、クラスプデイト62/1を装備しています。搭載ムーブメントはCal.321。ピラーホイール式のため、コスト高で、チラネジテンプに巻き上げヒゲと高級仕様です。

ほとんど使用されていません。ケースバック側から見ると、プッシュボタンのチューブに腐食が一切見られません。このケース特有のラグにある、やわらかいエッジが、しっかりと残っており、質感はオリジナル通りです。ベゼルは写真の通り、剥がれの見られない素晴らしいコンディションです。ダイヤルは素晴らしいコンディションで、濃く焼けたインデックス周りに若干の質感の変化が見られますが、その他特筆すべきダメージは見られません。フラットリンクブレスレットは正常にストレッチファンクションします。弊社にて分解掃除済みです。

今でこそ「Speedmasterイコール宇宙」という図式がすぐに浮かび上がりますが、当時は宇宙とは全く関係のない、純粋なモータースポーツ用の時計として誕生。また、スピードマスターは、ダイヤルではなく外周ベゼルにタキメーターを表示した世界で初めての時計と言われています。1959年、スピードマスターはマイナーチェンジをします。ベゼルがアルミニウムの黒色ベースとなり、針の形状がアロー針からアルファ針に変更されたことで、より視認性が高まっています。NASAは宇宙での過酷な環境にも耐えうる丈夫なクロノグラフを探しており、名だたる強豪に勝ったスピードマスターを公式時計として採用。その後1969年人類初の月面着陸の際、スピードマスターを着用していたことは有名な話。

Introducing the legendary Omega Speedmaster Ref. 2998. This model, featuring straight lugs and a lack of crown guards, presents a rugged case design characteristic of early Speedmasters. The silver-coloured alpha hands contribute to the vintage charm, a hallmark of this iconic series. The flat link bracelet, referred to as the "Caterpillar" in Japan, is equipped with Ref. 7912, end link 6, and clasp date 62/1. The watch is powered by the Cal. 321 movement, known for its column-wheel mechanism, a high-end specification featuring a Breguet overcoil balance spring and a screwed balance.

The watch shows minimal signs of use. From the case back, it’s evident that there is no corrosion on the pusher tubes. The soft edges of the lugs, unique to this case, are well-preserved, maintaining their original texture. The bezel is in excellent condition with no noticeable flaking, as seen in the photos. The dial is also in superb condition, with only slight patina around the deeply aged indices, but no other significant damage. The flat link bracelet functions correctly, including the stretch feature. The watch has been fully serviced by our company.

While the association of the Speedmaster with space is now iconic, it originally debuted as a pure motorsport watch. Notably, it was the first watch in the world to feature a tachymeter scale on the outer bezel rather than the dial. In 1959, the Speedmaster underwent a minor change, switching to an aluminium black base bezel and adopting alpha hands for improved readability. NASA, in its search for a durable chronograph capable of withstanding the harsh conditions of space, selected the Speedmaster as its official watch after it outperformed several contenders. The Speedmaster famously accompanied the first human landing on the Moon in 1969, cementing its place in history.
