OMEGAが手がけた貴重なレクタンギュラーモデル、マリーン。一般的な角形時計のウィークポイントであった防水性能を特殊なケース構造によってカバーし、オメガ初のダイバーズウォッチとして知られています。こちらはセカンドジェネレーションのモデルです。ダイヤルはホワイトで、ミニッツトラックにオールローマインデックス、ブルースチールのペンシルハンドとクラシックな意匠が組み合わされています。

搭載ムーブメントのCal.T17は30年代らしい古典的なムーブメントです。銀色メッキの受け、オーバーコイルに温度補正用の切りテンプと繊細な技術が詰まっています。アンクルの形が変わっており、狭い機械に収める為のいびつな形状に、重心を安定させる工夫がなされています。

ケースはほとんど痩せが見られず、状態よく残っています。ダイヤルは経年により独自の模様を見せていますが、プリントは欠けなく現存しています。針は深みのある青をよく残しています。弊社にて分解掃除済みで、調子良くお使いいただけます。

オメガマリーンは1932年に発表され、スポーツマンや船乗りに向けて作られた時計です。当時は水深70メートルの防水性能を誇りました。現代のダイバーズウォッチとは異なり、大きな回転ベゼルを持った金属の塊ではなく、エレガントなアールデコ調のラインとマットな質感の美しいレイアウトの文字盤を備えています。防水時計の先駆けと言えるマリーンは、真のコレクターズアイテムです。

腕時計が普及し始めた1910年代から手巻き、自動巻と変遷を経て、クオーツ時計の開発によって機械式時計が衰退します。それ以前の1960年代に機械式腕時計はひとつのピークに達します。当時は日本でも三種の神器の一つだったオメガの時計。持つ人のステータスとなる高級品で、各メーカーが精度や防水性、耐久性など切磋琢磨し開発した時代。コストをかけて、より良い時計造りのためにしのぎを削っていました。

COMMENT

The Marine, a rare rectangular model crafted by OMEGA, overcame the common waterproofing issues of rectangular watches with its unique case structure, making it OMEGA's first diver's watch. This particular piece is from the second generation. The dial is white with a minute track and all-Roman indices, complemented by blued steel pencil hands, combining classic design elements.

The case shows minimal signs of thinning and is in excellent condition. The dial has developed a unique patina over time, but the print remains intact. The hands retain their deep blue hue. The watch has been serviced by our store and is in good working order.

The OMEGA Marine was introduced in 1932, designed for sportsmen and sailors, boasting a water resistance of up to 70 metres. Unlike modern diver's watches, which often feature large rotating bezels and robust metal constructions, the Marine showcases elegant Art Deco lines and a matte-finished, beautifully laid-out dial. As a pioneering waterproof watch, the Marine is a true collector's item.

Since wristwatches began gaining popularity in the 1910s, OMEGA has transitioned from hand-wound to automatic movements, reaching a peak in mechanical watchmaking during the 1960s, before the rise of quartz watches led to a decline in mechanical watches. In that era, OMEGA watches were a status symbol in Japan, considered one of the three essential luxury items. Watchmakers of the time fiercely competed to improve accuracy, water resistance, and durability, investing significant resources to create superior timepieces.
