OMEGA CONSTELLATION REF.168.017SP BOX and Papers

COMMENT

COMMENT

The refined tonneau-shaped C-line case, a hallmark of late 1960s and early 1970s design, is attributed to Gérald Genta and reflects his signature blend of architectural form and elegant restraint. This example features the earlier domed acrylic crystal, offering a more pronounced vintage aesthetic compared to the flatter later versions. The smooth, flat bezel is polished to a mirror finish, providing a striking contrast to the brushed surfaces of the case and lending a distinctly sporty presence. The dial is finished in a silver sunburst pattern, with black-accented pencil hands and matching black center lines on the bar indexes—both enhancing legibility. The intricately cut calendar window frame is a subtle but telling detail of Omega’s meticulous craftsmanship.

The case remains in excellent condition, with only minimal signs of wear. The sides and lugs retain their crisp edges, contributing to the watch’s sharp profile. The hands are free of blemishes or tarnish, and the indexes maintain their faceted depth and crisp finish. Black print across the dial remains intact and clearly legible. Fully disassembled and cleaned by our watchmaker.

As its name suggests, the Constellation represents Omega’s pursuit of celestial-level precision. It was the brand’s flagship line, showcasing both its most accurate chronometer-rated movements and the height of automatic watchmaking before the rise of quartz technology. This model stands as a testament to an era when precision was the ultimate measure of value—and remains just as relevant and wearable in the modern day thanks to its timeless design and uncompromising construction.
