OMEGA Seamaster Calendar Black Gilt Dial Ref.2849

COMMENT

COMMENT

The case exudes a commanding presence with its broad bezel and robust lugs—hallmarks of the early Seamaster design that convey a distinct sense of heft and solidity. The dial features a lustrous black mirror finish, with all text rendered in gilt. Diamond-cut indexes sparkle sharply, imparting both elegance and tension across the dial. The dauphine minute hand and slender seconds hand are precisely aligned with the minute track, enhancing both legibility and technical sophistication.

The case shows minimal signs of wear and maintains excellent proportions. The flat facets of the bezel and lugs, along with the sharply defined bevels, preserve the original form and emphasize the robust character emblematic of the Seamaster lineage. The dial retains a remarkable level of gloss, with no noticeable aging—an exceptionally rare condition. Both the hands and indexes preserve their mirror polish, catching light with a brilliance that enhances both visibility and refinement. Fully overhauled by our workshop.

Among 1950s Seamasters, black mirror dials were produced in limited quantities, and examples that have retained their luster over time are exceedingly rare. The contrast of glossy black lacquer, gilt lettering, and sharp indexes elevates the piece beyond mere tool watch status, evoking the elegance of a refined dress watch. Mirror dials of this quality were notoriously delicate due to the production process, and few have survived in such pristine condition. Within the functional heritage of the Seamaster line, this example distinguishes itself with a level of design and finish that rivals high-end dress models—an outstanding piece of horological craftsmanship.
