MINERVA Ref.VD712は、ミネルバがヴァルジュー72を採用していた時代を象徴する3レジスタークロノグラフです。ステンレス製のスクリューバックとラウンドプッシャーを備えた防水ケースは、一流メーカーらしいポテンシャルを感じさせます。まだステンレスが高級素材だった時代、コストを抑える個体では真鍮にメッキを施したケースも一般的でしたが、本作はステンレスでしっかり作り込まれている点が魅力です。ケースバックにはスウェーデン軍向けとして知られる通称「Tre Kronor（三つの王冠）」の刻印が入り、北欧ミリタリーの背景をまとった存在感があります。ホワイトダイヤルはきめ細やかな仕上げで、ルミナスのオールアラビアインデックスが整然と並びます。針はすべて青焼きで、時分針のみセンターにルムを配した構成。インダイヤルはレコード盤のような精緻な溝が光を受け、外周のサークルラインには0.2秒単位の目盛りが刻まれ、ヴィンテージらしい密度が感じられます。

本個体は、ほとんど使用されてこなかったであろうコンディションです。ケースは保管に伴うごく軽微な傷のみで、ラグやベゼルのファセットが明瞭に残り、リューズやプッシャーも状態良く現存しています。ダイヤルは光にかざすと繊細なテクスチャが確認でき、気になるような劣化は見受けられません。ブルースチール針は深みのある青色を保ち、ルミナスは理想的なベージュトーンへと焼け、時計全体の印象を一段と引き上げています。弊社にて分解清掃済みです。

名機ヴァルジュー72は巻き上げやプッシャー操作のタッチが良く、整備性にも優れ、長く付き合えるクロノグラフとして評価されてきました。本作は当時としては先進的なインカブロック耐震機構を備えている点も見どころです。資料性と実用性、そして状態の良さが揃った、希少性の高い一本です。

BRAND

自社内でムーブメントを生産する数少ないメーカーとして時計マニアには人気が高い。年間数千本生産する小規模のメーカーで、社員の数もオーナーも含めてわずか13人。工場の1階から３階でプレス、部品の組み立て旋盤、仕上げの作業が行われている。忙しい時期になると、村の住人である50から60人加わるという。そんな牧歌的なメーカーであったが、ある企業に買収され、社長のフレイ氏も退社してしまったという話である。

COMMENT

MINERVA Ref. VD712 is a three-register chronograph that represents the era when Minerva employed the Valjoux 72 movement. The waterproof case, fitted with a stainless-steel screw back and round pushers, conveys the technical confidence expected of a top-tier manufacturer. At a time when stainless steel was still considered a luxury material—and cost-conscious watches often relied on brass cases with plating—this model stands out for being solidly constructed in stainless steel throughout. The case back bears the so-called “Tre Kronor” (Three Crowns) engraving, associated with deliveries to the Swedish military, lending the watch a distinctive Nordic military provenance.
The white dial is finely finished, with luminous Arabic numerals arranged in a clean, orderly layout. All hands are blued steel, with luminous material applied only to the centers of the hour and minute hands. The subdials feature finely cut concentric grooves reminiscent of a vinyl record, catching the light with precision, while the outer track is graduated in 0.2-second increments—details that contribute to the dense, unmistakably vintage character of the dial.

This example appears to have seen very little use. The case shows only minimal storage marks, with crisp facets remaining on the lugs and bezel, and the crown and pushers preserved in excellent condition. When viewed under light, the dial reveals a delicate surface texture, free from any distracting deterioration. The blued steel hands retain a deep, rich blue, and the luminous material has aged to an ideal beige tone, elevating the overall harmony of the watch. Fully serviced by our watchmaker.

The legendary Valjoux 72 is celebrated for its smooth winding action, satisfying pusher feel, and excellent serviceability, making it a chronograph designed to be enjoyed over the long term. Another notable feature of this piece is the inclusion of the Incabloc shock-protection system, which was advanced for its time. Combining historical significance, practical usability, and outstanding condition, this is a highly collectible and rarely encountered example.

BRAND

Highly regarded among watch enthusiasts as one of the few manufacturers to produce its movements entirely in-house, Minerva was a small-scale maker producing only a few thousand watches per year. Including the owner, the company reportedly consisted of just thirteen people, with pressing, machining, assembly, and finishing carried out across the first three floors of the factory. During busy periods, an additional fifty to sixty villagers would assist in production. Despite this pastoral, artisanal operation, the company was eventually acquired by a larger group, after which its president, Mr. Frey, is said to have departed—marking the end of an era for the historic manufacture.
