COMMENT

ベゼルとブレスレットにビス装飾を配したサントスは、カルティエを象徴する意匠のひとつです。ダイヤルはマットな質感の淡いアイボリーで、ミニッツトラック、ローマ数字、サークルラインが整然と配置されています。ブルースチールのバトン針とカボションリューズの色味が統一感をもたらし、全体を端正にまとめています。

本個体はNEW OLD STOCK（未使用品）。当時の質感を良好な状態で保っています。裏蓋に当時のシールが残存しています。ケース上面のヘアラインは均一で、側面との境界に設けられたファセットは鏡面を維持しています。ダイヤルに目立つ傷はなく、インデックスは艶を保った状態です。

LMサイズのサントスオクタゴンは、近年流通量が減少傾向にあります。平面的にカットされたブレスレットは光を受けるたびに陰影を生み、ジュエリーピースのような存在感を示します。デイト表示付きのクォーツムーブメントは視認性と精度に優れ、デザイン性と実用性を兼ね備えたモデルです。

1900年代初頭、飛行士アルベルト・サントス＝デュモンが飛行中に時刻を確認したいとカルティエに依頼したことから誕生したのが「サントス」シリーズです。八角形ベゼルの「サントスオクタゴン」は、その流れを汲みつつ、ジュエラーとしてのカルティエらしい優美な造形を体現したモデル。平面カットのブレスレットが腕の動きにあわせてきらめき、シンプルながらもエレガンスを感じさせる一本です。

COMMENT

The Santos, distinguished by its screw-set bezel and bracelet, stands as one of Cartier’s most emblematic designs. The dial is rendered in a soft matte ivory tone, with the minute track, Roman numerals, and circular chemin de fer arranged in disciplined harmony. Blued steel baton hands and the cabochon-set crown introduce a unified accent of color, bringing balance and refinement to the overall composition.

This example is offered in New Old Stock condition. It retains the original texture and finish exceptionally well, with the factory sticker still present on the case back. The hairline finish across the top surfaces of the case remains even, and the polished facets along the case sides are clearly preserved. The dial is free from noticeable damage, and the indexes maintain their original sheen. 

The LM-sized Santos Octagon has become increasingly scarce in recent years. The flat-cut bracelet produces subtle contrasts of light and shadow with each movement of the wrist, lending it a presence akin to a piece of jewelry. Equipped with a quartz movement and date display, it offers reliable precision and legibility while maintaining a strong design identity—an appealing balance of aesthetics and practicality.

The Santos collection was born in the early 1900s when aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont requested a wristwatch from Cartier that could be read easily during flight. The Santos Octagon, with its distinctive eight-sided bezel, continues that lineage while expressing the elegance unique to Cartier as a jeweler. Its flat-cut bracelet catches the light with the motion of the wrist, resulting in a piece that is understated yet unmistakably refined.
