COMMENT

This Vacheron & Constantin Ref. 6592 pairs a softly rounded, “Disco Volante”-style case with sculptural fancy lugs featuring contrasting polished and brushed surfaces. The rich tone of the 18K yellow gold case complements a silver sunburst dial, set with applied baton indexes, dauphine hands, and a date display at 3 o’clock. Although modestly sized at approximately 34.5mm, the substantial case and intricately shaped lugs give the watch balanced proportions.

Inside is the automatic Cal. K1072, a full-rotor movement operating at 18,000 vibrations per hour and equipped with a Breguet overcoil and fine-adjustment mechanism. The bridges and rotor are carefully decorated, reflecting the high standard of finishing associated with Vacheron & Constantin during this period.

The case shows minor scratches from use, though the edges of the lugs and their sculpted facets remain well preserved. The distinction between the polished and brushed surfaces is still clearly defined, while the gold hallmarks beneath the lugs remain crisp. The dial displays minimal discoloration, with its sunburst finish, printing, and applied logo all remaining clear. The hands and indexes show no noticeable tarnishing and retain an attractive sheen. Combining distinctive casework with a practical automatic movement and date display, this is an appealing expression of 1960s Vacheron & Constantin. Fully serviced by our watchmaker.

Among dress watches of the period, the softly rounded case and intricately faceted fancy lugs offer a clear expression of Vacheron & Constantin’s originality. The warm tone of the 18K yellow gold complements the composed silver dial, creating a form that is classical yet far from conventional. With the finely finished automatic Cal. K1072 and a date function, it offers equal interest in both its exterior design and mechanics, making it a compelling addition to a collection.
