OMEGA Seamaster Ref.176.007 JEDI Rare Two-Tone Dial

COMMENT

1970年代らしい重厚なトノーケースを備え、スピードマスター Mark IIIにも通じる計器的なダイヤルデザインを持つシーマスターです。ダイヤルはブルーとブラックで構成された非常に珍しいツートーン仕様で、光の角度によって中央から深いネイビーの表情が浮かび上がります。ホワイトのタキメータースケール、グレーの12時間積算計、ブルーを配した24時間表示、オレンジのクロノグラフ針が組み合わされ、1970年代のオメガらしい機能美を感じられる構成です。ブレスレットはRef.1170、エンドリンク604です。ムーブメントは、オメガ初の自動巻クロノグラフCal.1040を搭載しています。

ケースは使用に伴う小傷が見られますが、Ref.176.007らしい重厚なプロポーションをしっかりと保っています。ダイヤルは非常に良好なコンディションで、過去に入水したような大きなダメージは見られず、深いブルーとブラックのサンレイ仕上げをきれいに楽しめます。ホワイトのインナースケールは劣化が少なく、プリントも明瞭です。インデックスにはアラビア数字のプリントが入り、立体的な時字とあわせて視認性を高めています。針や24時間表示のブルー、オレンジのクロノグラフ針も鮮やかさを保っています。弊社にて分解清掃済みです。

Ref.176.007の中でも、ブルーとブラックのツートーングラデーションダイヤルは流通量が非常に少なく、通常のブルーダイヤルとは異なる特別な印象があります。フライトマスターやスピードマスター Mark IIIなど、当時のオメガが展開した大型ケースの流れを感じさせるデザインで、単なるクロノグラフに留まらない時代性を備えています。Cal.1040による自動巻クロノグラフの実用性、独創的なダイヤルレイアウト、純正ブレスレットが揃った、1970年代のオメガを象徴する魅力的な一本です。

今でこそ「Speedmasterイコール宇宙」という図式がすぐに浮かび上がりますが、当時は宇宙とは全く関係のない、純粋なモータースポーツ用の時計として誕生。また、スピードマスターは、ダイヤルではなく外周ベゼルにタキメーターを表示した世界で初めての時計と言われています。1959年、スピードマスターはマイナーチェンジをします。ベゼルがアルミニウムの黒色ベースとなり、針の形状がアロー針からアルファ針に変更されたことで、より視認性が高まっています。NASAは宇宙での過酷な環境にも耐えうる丈夫なクロノグラフを探しており、名だたる強豪に勝ったスピードマスターを公式時計として採用。その後1969年人類初の月面着陸の際、スピードマスターを着用していたことは有名な話。

COMMENT

This Seamaster features the substantial tonneau-shaped case characteristic of the 1970s, together with an instrument-like dial design that recalls the Speedmaster Mark III. The dial has a very rare two-tone configuration in blue and black, with a deep navy tone emerging from the center depending on the angle of the light. A white tachymeter scale, grey 12-hour recorder, blue-accented 24-hour display, and orange chronograph hands come together to create the functional aesthetic strongly associated with 1970s Omega. The watch is fitted with a Ref.1170 bracelet and 604 end links. It is powered by the Cal.1040, Omega’s first automatic chronograph movement.

The case shows minor scratches from use, but retains the substantial proportions characteristic of the Ref.176.007. The dial remains in excellent condition, with no major damage suggesting past moisture exposure, and the deep blue and black sunburst finish can be fully appreciated. The white inner scale shows little deterioration, and the printing remains clear. The indexes include printed Arabic numerals, which work together with the dimensional hour markers to improve legibility. The blue accents on the 24-hour display and the orange chronograph hands also retain their vivid appearance. Fully serviced by our watchmaker.

Among Ref.176.007 examples, the blue and black two-tone gradient dial is particularly uncommon and gives the watch a very different impression from the standard blue dial. Its design reflects the line of large-case Omega models from the period, including the Flightmaster and Speedmaster Mark III, giving it a strong sense of its era beyond that of a conventional chronograph. With the practicality of the automatic Cal.1040 chronograph movement, an original dial layout, and the correct Omega bracelet, this is a highly appealing example that captures the character of 1970s Omega.

BRAND

Today, the Speedmaster is immediately associated with space exploration, but it was originally created purely as a motorsport watch, with no connection to space at the time. The Speedmaster is also said to have been the first watch to feature a tachymeter scale on the outer bezel rather than on the dial. In 1959, the Speedmaster underwent a minor update: the bezel was changed to a black aluminum insert, and the hands were changed from broad arrow hands to alpha hands, improving legibility. NASA later began searching for a robust chronograph capable of withstanding the extreme conditions of space, and the Speedmaster prevailed over several major competitors to become its official watch. It is famously known as the watch worn during mankind’s first Moon landing in 1969.
