1970年代に製造されたセイコー 5スポーツ スピードタイマー Ref.6138-0040、通称「ブルヘッド」です。リューズとクロノグラフプッシャーをケース上部に集約した特徴的な構造が、牛の頭部と角を思わせることから、この愛称で親しまれています。ブラウンダイヤルにシャンパンカラーのインダイヤルを配し、オレンジのセンタークロノグラフ秒針とイエローの「Speed-Timer」表記をアクセントとしています。外周にはタキメーターベゼル、6時位置には縦型のデイデイト表示を備えた、機能的で立体感のある構成です。

ケースには使用に伴う細かな傷が見られますが、ケース側面の面構成やエッジ、上面のヘアラインは良好に残っています。ブラウンのタキメーターベゼルには自然な経年変化が見られるものの、目盛りと数字は明瞭です。ダイヤルは目立つ変色や傷がなく、ブラウンとシャンパンカラーのコントラストを美しく維持しています。針、インデックス、各種プリントも良好な状態で、オレンジのクロノグラフ秒針も鮮やかな色調を保っています。希少なセイコー純正ブレスレットが装着され、ケースとの一体感を損なわない当時の姿を残しています。弊社にて分解清掃済みです。

ムーブメントは自動巻クロノグラフCal.6138Bを搭載。コラムホイールと垂直クラッチを採用し、クロノグラフの確実な作動と針飛びを抑えた滑らかなスタートを実現しています。30分積算計と12時間積算計、デイデイト表示に加え、手巻き機能も備えた実用性の高いキャリバーです。専用の純正ブレスレットが残っていることは重要な評価点です。外装とムーブメントの双方に、1970年代の国産クロノグラフが持つ独創性と技術力を確認できる一本です。

The Seiko 5 Sports Speed-Timer Ref.6138-0040 dates from the 1970s and is commonly known as the “Bullhead.” Its distinctive nickname comes from the crown and chronograph pushers positioned at the top of the case, recalling the head and horns of a bull. The brown dial is paired with champagne-colored subdials, accented by an orange central chronograph seconds hand and a yellow “Speed-Timer” signature. A tachymeter bezel surrounds the dial, while a vertical day-date display at 6 o’clock completes the functional, dimensional layout.

The case shows minor scratches from use, while the faceted case sides, defined edges, and brushed finish across the upper surfaces remain well preserved. The brown tachymeter bezel displays natural aging, though its scale and numerals remain clearly legible. The dial is free from prominent discoloration or marks and retains the attractive contrast between its brown and champagne tones. The hands, indexes, and printed details are also in good condition, with the orange chronograph seconds hand preserving its vivid color. The watch is fitted with a rare original Seiko bracelet, maintaining the integrated appearance of the original configuration. Fully serviced by our watchmaker.

Inside is the automatic chronograph Cal.6138B, equipped with a column wheel and vertical clutch for positive operation and a smooth start with minimal hand jump. It features 30-minute and 12-hour counters, a day-date display, and manual winding, making it a highly practical calibre. The surviving original bracelet is an important aspect of this example. Both the exterior and movement reflect the technical capability and distinctive approach of Japanese chronographs from the 1970s.
