ROLEX Air-King Ref.5500 Black Matte No Luminous

COMMENT

COMMENT

A striking Air-King with a black matte dial, featuring crisp white printed lettering. The quality of the paintwork and the seamlessly integrated print on the dial match the techniques and textures seen in matte dials of contemporaneous Submariner and GMT-Master models. The minimalist design, with bar indexes, pencil hands, and no luminous elements, enhances both readability and the elegant simplicity of the watch. The flat-style coronet logo reflects light brilliantly, adding a mirror-like shine to the dial. Without a date display, the domed acrylic crystal emphasizes its vintage charm, while the symmetrical dial layout creates a harmonious and refined aesthetic.

The case is in excellent condition, free from significant damage and with minimal wear. The dial is mint, showing no signs of deterioration. Both the hands and indexes remain pristine, with no plating wear, maintaining their silver luster and enhancing the visual impact of the black dial. The bracelet retains its original tension, showing minimal stretch, allowing for a near-new wearing experience. The watch has been fully serviced by our workshop, ensuring reliability for immediate use.

As the oldest Rolex model to carry a “pet name,” the Air-King is a cornerstone of the brand's legacy. The Ref.5500, produced from the 1950s through the 1990s, stands out as a long-running bestseller. The central “Air-King” logo on the dial underscores its simplicity and unpretentious design, embodying the essence of a functional yet refined tool watch. This specific piece, with its rare black matte dial and no-lume configuration, further elevates its appeal, making it a standout addition to any collection.
