COMMENT

30mm径のミッドサイズステンレスケースに、ブラックギルトダイヤルが収められています。クサビ型インデックスとアルファハンドの組み合わせが、1950年代らしいクラシカルな趣を醸し出しています。ステップベゼルやファセットの入ったラグ、スクリューバック構造など、細部までこだわりを感じる意匠です。搭載ムーブメントは、自社製のCal.1411U。ミッドサイズのケースにありがちなレディースムーブメントではなく、ケースいっぱいに収まるレイアウトの美しいムーブメントが搭載されており、機械好きにも訴求する仕様です。

ケースは使用傷があるものの、エッジがしっかりと立っており、シャープなプロポーションを維持しています。ダイヤルは傷ひとつなく、ブラックミラー特有の艶やかな光沢を残した、極めて良好な状態です。針・インデックスともに夜光塗料の崩れはなく、均一にベージュへと移ろったトーンがヴィンテージらしい風合いを添えています。弊社にて分解掃除済みです。

ブラックミラーダイヤルは、その性質上、使用せずとも経年で劣化する個体が多く見られますが、本品は適切な保管環境により、当時の姿をほぼそのまま残しています。今では希少となった、50年代の空気を色濃く残すミントコンディションの個体です。このサイズの自動巻は当時最先端、エテルナの真髄を、ぜひご堪能ください。

COMMENT

A beautifully preserved example from the 1950s, this Eterna features a 30mm mid-sized stainless steel case paired with a striking black gilt dial. The combination of faceted wedge-shaped indexes and alpha hands gives it a distinctly elegant, 1950s aesthetic. Details like the stepped bezel, faceted lugs, and screw-down caseback reflect the meticulous craftsmanship Eterna was known for. Inside, it houses the in-house automatic caliber 1411U—not a repurposed ladies’ movement, but a properly proportioned mechanism that fills out the case perfectly. A true delight for those who appreciate thoughtful movement architecture.

The case remains sharp and well-defined, showing only minor signs of wear. The dial is in remarkable condition, free of blemishes and retaining the rich, mirror-like luster that black gilt dials are prized for. Both the hands and indexes show no loss or crumbling of the luminous material, which has gracefully aged to a warm beige hue—adding vintage character without compromising legibility. The watch has been fully overhauled by our workshop.

Due to their delicate finish, black mirror dials often degrade with age, even in unworn examples. However, this particular watch— carefully stored over the decades—has survived in outstanding condition, preserving the spirit of the 1950s in exceptional clarity. A rare opportunity to experience a mid-century classic in near-original form.

Eterna is a true manufacture, standing alongside Longines and Omega as one of the great Swiss houses. Originally a movement manufacturer, the brand became renowned for its engineering and production capabilities. In 1948, Eterna introduced the “Eterna-Matic,” the world’s first self-winding movement with ball bearings integrated into the rotor—a breakthrough that dramatically improved winding efficiency and durability. This innovation cemented Eterna’s reputation as one of the most technically advanced and respected watchmakers of its time.
