ROLEX DAY-DATE “Doorstop Dial” 18K White Gold Ref.1803

COMMENT

COMMENT

Produced in 1970 during the golden era of mechanical watchmaking, this Day-Date exemplifies the prestige of one of Rolex’s most iconic models. Exclusively crafted in solid gold or platinum, the Day-Date was the first wristwatch to display the day of the week spelled out in full. This particular piece features an 18k white gold Oyster case with a fluted bezel—an enduring symbol of refinement and depth. White gold offers a perfect balance of elegance and wearability, making it one of the most sought-after materials among collectors.

The silver sunburst dial is free from unnecessary embellishments, allowing the beauty of the materials and design to take center stage. The “doorstop” dial—named for the distinctive wedge-shaped indexes at 6 and 9 o’clock—is a favorite among vintage Rolex enthusiasts. Both the hands and indexes are non-luminous, preserving a clean and unaffected appearance free from aging-related patina. Baton-style hands complement the minimalist layout, while “T SWISS T” is printed at 6 o’clock.

The case shows only minor signs of use and retains an attractive finish across its surfaces. Hallmarks on the case back remain crisp and well-defined, attesting to the piece’s excellent overall preservation. The dial is free of discoloration and maintains a bright, transparent silver hue. While the hands show very faint aging, they remain highly legible. The indexes are mirror-polished and reflect light beautifully. The watch has been fully disassembled and serviced by our workshop.

Since its introduction in 1956, the Day-Date has been known as the world’s first waterproof, self-winding chronometer wristwatch with a full day and date display. Famously worn by U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower and numerous global leaders, it remains an enduring symbol of status and success. This particular model is a fitting choice for those who seek understated sophistication backed by historical significance.
