CARTIER LM Pre Must TANK Ref.15705

COMMENT

COMMENT

The off-white dial features black-printed Roman numerals with a minute track set inside the chapter ring. It is fitted with blued steel baton hands and a cabochon-cut spinel crown. The contrast between the gold case and the black, white, and blue elements creates a striking visual balance.

The dial shows no cracks and remains in excellent preserved condition overall. The indices are intact without flaking or loss, and the surface retains a soft, refined texture. The blued steel hands have not faded and still display vivid coloration. The case shows only minimal signs of wear with no notable damage, preserving a clean and well-kept impression. Fully serviced by our workshop.

This is a Tank model, often called a "pre-must," manufactured just before the "must de" designation was introduced. While retaining the design of the original Tank, it features a conical spinel crown and is also known as the "European style." It is said to have been a style developed for the EU market at the time, but was actually sold worldwide. Among the long history of the Tank series, this model retains many of the design elements of a transitional period, making it a highly valuable piece for collectors.

Today, Cartier is globally renowned as a jeweler, but it was among the very first to produce a true wristwatch in 1904—at a time when pocket watches still dominated. The "Tank" was named after the Renault tanks used during World War I, which inspired its design and symbolized the hope of peace at the war’s end.
