スムースベゼルを備えたロレックス デイトジャスト Ref.1600です。フルーテッドベゼルのRef.1601やエンジンターンドベゼルのRef.1603とは異なり、装飾を抑えたステンレススチール製ベゼルによって、36mmケースの端正な輪郭が際立ちます。深いマットブルーダイヤルにはバトンハンドとバーインデックスを配置。インデックス上面のホワイトラインは夜光塗料ではなく、暗色のダイヤル上で視認性を高めるための塗装です。純正の巻き込み式オイスターブレスレットRef.7836、エンドリンク256を装備し、クラスプにデイトコードのない仕様です。

ケースには使用に伴う傷が見られますが、ラグには十分な厚みがあり、全体のプロポーションは良好に保たれています。経年変化の現れやすいブルーダイヤルとしては非常に美しい状態で、発色と均一な表面の質感、各種プリントはいずれも鮮明です。厳密には32分位置に一点のみ小さな経年変化が見られますが、それ以外に目立つ変色や劣化はありません。針とインデックスも良好な状態を維持し、外周の夜光は均一なクリームカラーへ変化しています。

ムーブメントはロレックスを代表する自動巻クロノメーターCal.1570系を搭載。スムースベゼルと3連オイスターブレスレットの組み合わせは、一般的なデイトジャストよりも簡潔でスポーティーな印象を与え、同じ36mm径のエクスプローラー Ref.1016を思わせる引き締まった外観です。Ref.1600自体が比較的流通の少ない仕様であり、さらに状態の良いブルーダイヤルを備えた個体は、見つける機会の少ない組み合わせです。

COMMENT

This Rolex Datejust Ref.1600 is fitted with a smooth stainless steel bezel. Unlike the fluted bezel of the Ref.1601 or the engine-turned bezel of the Ref.1603, its restrained finish emphasizes the clean outline of the 36mm case. The deep matte blue dial is arranged with baton hands and applied baton indexes. The white lines on the upper surfaces of the indexes are painted rather than luminous, improving legibility against the dark dial. The watch is fitted with an original folded-link Oyster bracelet, Ref.7836, with 256 end links and an undated clasp.

The case shows scratches from use, though the lugs retain substantial thickness and the overall proportions remain well preserved. Blue dials from this period are prone to aging, yet this example remains in excellent condition, retaining its rich color, even surface, and crisp printing. On close inspection, there is a single small age-related mark at the 32-minute position, with no other prominent discoloration or deterioration. The hands and indexes are also well preserved, while the lume plots around the dial have aged evenly to a cream tone.

Inside is Rolex’s automatic chronometer-rated Cal.1570 series movement. The combination of a smooth bezel and three-link Oyster bracelet gives the watch a cleaner, more sporting appearance than the typical Datejust, with a taut profile reminiscent of the similarly sized Explorer Ref.1016. The Ref.1600 is itself less commonly encountered, and examples fitted with a blue dial in this condition are especially difficult to find.
