ROLEX DATEJUST Ref.1625 ThunderBird

COMMENT

COMMENT

This unique Datejust combines the refined identity of Rolex’s flagship dress watch with the sporty character of a rotating bezel. The case is crafted from stainless steel, complemented by a white gold bezel—an elegant two-tone configuration. The silver sunray dial retains the quintessential Datejust aesthetic, featuring slender polished bar indexes, while the rotating bezel adds a striking three-dimensional accent. It is fitted with the original folded Jubilee bracelet Ref.6251H, clasp code 71/4, and end links 55.

Though classically sized at 36mm, the elongated and substantial lugs give the case a confident wrist presence. The overall condition is excellent, with no deep scratches or dents, and the bezel teeth and edges remain crisp. The dial shows no significant aging, maintaining clean printing, precise minute track, and a fine brushed texture. The indexes, hands, and coronet logo retain their plating and brilliance. Altogether, this example combines the visual beauty and wearing comfort emblematic of vintage Rolex. Fully serviced by our watchmaker.

Nicknamed the “Thunderbird,” Ref.1625 inherits its design and concept from the Rolex Turn-O-Graph, one of the pioneering tool watches introduced in the 1950s. Named after the U.S. Air Force aerobatic team, the “Thunderbirds,” this model perfectly bridges the worlds of dress and sport, uniting elegance with functionality in a way only Rolex could achieve.

The Datejust remains one of Rolex’s most enduring and universally admired models. Rolex was the first to introduce the instantaneous date-change mechanism—the “Datejust” function—at midnight. Launched in 1945, it is the oldest model in Rolex’s regular collection, available in a wide range of materials and sizes for men, women, and mid-size variants. Its timeless appeal lies in this versatility and technical refinement.
