ROLEX OYSTER ROYAL Ref.4444

COMMENT

COMMENT

This elegant piece features a crisp white dial with embossed hour markers arranged in a distinctive layout: dagger-shaped indexes form the base design, accented by dot markers at 3 and 9 o’clock, and Arabic numerals at 6 and 12. Leaf hands complement the dial, reflecting the refined aesthetics of the 1940s. A chapter ring encircles the outer edge, enhancing legibility while adding a subtle decorative element. The case back bears the “BREVETE ROLEX” engraving, indicating that the watch was produced during the period when Rolex held a relevant patent. The movement is the Cal. 10 1/2H, equipped with an anti-shock mechanism.

The case remains in excellent condition with minimal signs of wear, and the crown—engraved with the Rolex coronet—shows no scratches and retains a remarkably pristine appearance. The dial has aged gently into a soft beige tone, adding vintage charm through its nuanced patina. The hands exhibit minor surface marks but still maintain their original luster, while the indexes have aged in a way that harmonizes beautifully with the overall vintage character. The watch has been fully disassembled and cleaned by our team.

Though classical in its construction, this 1940s Oyster presents a perfectly balanced design. From the finely recessed dial detailing to the precisely marked chapter ring and flat case architecture, this watch embodies the engineering ideals and aesthetic philosophy of Rolex during the period. It is a thoughtful and essential reference for anyone exploring the early evolution of vintage Rolex.

BRAND

Rolex is universally recognized as the king of watchmaking. The brand revolutionized the industry by developing the Oyster case, screw-down case backs, and winding crowns—components that protected precise mechanical movements from water and shock. These innovations transformed the wristwatch from a delicate accessory into a durable, everyday tool. The Rolex design language and technical philosophy established in those early years remain the gold standard for contemporary wristwatches to this day.
