ジェラルド・ジェンタが手掛けたユニバーサル・ジュネーブのダイバーズウォッチ。大ぶりな42mmケースはEPSA社製スーパーコンプレッサーで、2時位置のリューズでインナーベゼルを、4時位置のリューズで時刻を操作します。本個体はシリアル211++++のMK3モデルで、2時側リューズがわずかに大きい点がオリジナルの特徴です。MK3初期にあたるため、ダイヤルは“SWISS”のみの表記で、ドットルムです。ブラックギルト仕上げのレターやロゴ、インデックスまで全て下地出しで構成。インナーベゼルは▽から20までルミナスを施し、極太ペンシルハンドとともに水中での高い視認性を確保しています。希少なゲイフレアー社製エキスパンジョン純正ブレスレット（クラスプデイト60/3）が装着されています。

ケースは極めて良好なプロポーションを維持し、最小限の小傷のみでエッジは鮮明です。ユニバーサルには元よりケースバック刻印は薄いですが、リファレンス・シリアルともに判読可能なまま現存しています。ダイヤルはミントコンディションで、ブラックミラーの質感が当時のまま残されています。インナーベゼル、インデックスの夜光ドット、針の夜光は美しいベージュへと均一にエイジングし、欠けは見られません。弊社にて分解清掃済みです。

特筆すべきはインナーベゼルのフォントです。極太の数字は40および50が接する“Kissing”仕様。夜光塗料はスーパーファットで、存在感と迫力は格別です。ミント状態のダイヤルと純正ブレスレットが揃うこの一本は、UGコレクターにとって見逃せない希少な個体です。

ユニバーサル・ジュネーブの歴史は二人の時計師、エミーユ・デコームとジョルジュ・ペレによって1894年スイスで創業されたところから始まる。高級感溢れるデザインウォッチや複雑時計の製造を得意とし、クロノグラフの名品＜コンパックス＞を開発したことで、その名を時計史に刻んだ名門のブランド。

COMMENT

A diver’s watch designed by Gérald Genta for Universal Genève, this model features a bold 42mm case by EPSA in the Super Compressor construction. The crown at 2 o’clock operates the inner rotating bezel, while the crown at 4 o’clock adjusts the time. This example, with serial number 211++++, is an early MK3 variant distinguished by the slightly oversized 2 o’clock crown—a hallmark of the original specification. As an early MK3, the dial bears only the “SWISS” signature and features dot lume markers. Every detail, from the gilt lettering and logo to the indexes, is executed in the gilt-print relief style. The inner bezel has luminous markings from the triangle to “20,” ensuring excellent underwater visibility in concert with the bold pencil hands. It is paired with a rare original Gay Frères expansion bracelet, clasp dated 60/3.

The case retains superb proportions with sharp edges and only minimal wear. As is typical for Universal Genève, the caseback engraving is light, yet both the reference and serial remain legible. The dial is in mint condition, preserving the original gloss of the black mirror finish. The lume on the inner bezel, the dot markers, and the hands has aged evenly to a warm beige tone with no loss. Disassembly and cleaning have been carried out by us.

A particularly notable detail is the inner bezel font: the oversized numerals feature the desirable “Kissing 40/50” configuration, where the two digits meet. The luminous material is of the ultra-fat variety, giving the watch an exceptional presence and visual impact. In mint condition, with its original bracelet intact, this is a rare and unmissable piece for the Universal Genève collector.
