KING SEIKO Ref.49999 cursive “Chronometer” 44KS

1964年頃に製造された、キングセイコー クロノメーター Ref.49999です。第二精工舎が手掛けた44KSの中でも最初期に位置し、12時位置の「Chronometer」が筆記体で記された希少な仕様です。シルバーダイヤルには中心から放射状に伸びるサンレイ仕上げを施し、太く立体的なバーインデックスと鋭いドーフィンハンドを配置。先端を小さな矢じり状に仕上げた秒針もクロノメーター仕様特有の意匠です。幅広のラグには複数の面が設けられ、後に確立される「セイコースタイル」を予感させるシャープなケース造形を見せています。

ダイヤルは目立つ変色や傷がなく、サンレイの繊細な仕上げと各種プリントが明瞭に残っています。針とインデックスにも目立つくすみやメッキの剥がれは見られず、多面カットが光を端正に反射します。ケースには軽微な使用傷が見られるものの、太いラグの稜線と上面のファセットは明瞭で、44KSらしい力強いプロポーションを維持。裏蓋の獅子メダリオンは摩耗や腐食が少なく、Ref.49999の刻印も鮮明です。初期型に用いられた「W SEIKO」刻印のリューズも装着されています。弊社にて分解清掃済みです。

搭載するのは、キャリバー番号の刻印を持たない最初期仕様の27石手巻きムーブメントです。毎時18,000振動で作動し、リューズを引くと秒針を停止できるハック機構を装備。後のCal.4420Aへ続く高精度機で、通常の44KSより石数を増やし、入念な調整を施したクロノメーター仕様として製作されました。筆記体ダイヤル、Ref.49999のケース、無刻印の27石ムーブメント、獅子メダリオンが揃う本個体は、後の44GSへ連なる第二精工舎の技術と造形の発展を伝える、44KS最初期ならではの一本です。

Produced around 1964, this King Seiko Chronometer Ref.49999 is one of the earliest 44KS models made by Daini Seikosha. It is distinguished by the uncommon cursive “Chronometer” signature at 12 o’clock. The silver dial has a fine sunburst finish, complemented by broad, substantial baton indexes and sharply defined dauphine hands. The seconds hand, finished with a small arrowhead-shaped tip, is another detail associated with the chronometer version. Multiple facets across the broad lugs give the case a sharply articulated form that anticipates the “Seiko Style” established in later models.

The dial shows no noticeable discoloration or damage, and its delicate sunburst finish and printed details remain clear. The hands and indexes display no significant tarnishing or loss of plating, with their multifaceted surfaces reflecting the light cleanly. The case shows minor scratches from use, though the defined lines and upper facets of the substantial lugs remain sharp, preserving the strong proportions characteristic of the 44KS. The lion medallion on the case back shows little wear or corrosion, and the Ref.49999 engraving remains clearly legible. The early “W SEIKO”-signed crown also remains fitted. Inside is an early 27-jewel, manually wound movement without a calibre number engraved on the movement itself. Operating at 18,000 vibrations per hour, it is equipped with hacking seconds activated by pulling out the crown. Developed as a high-precision movement that preceded the later Cal.4420A, this chronometer version uses more jewels than the standard 44KS and was subject to careful adjustment. With its cursive-signature dial, Ref.49999 case, unsigned 27-jewel movement, and lion medallion, this example retains the defining elements of the earliest 44KS and reflects Daini Seikosha’s technical and aesthetic development leading toward the later 44GS.
