KING SEIKO 1st Ref.J14102E Stainless Steel

COMMENT

COMMENT

Produced in 1963, this Ref.J14102E belongs to the first generation of King Seiko. Launched by Daini Seikosha in 1961 as a high-grade watch, King Seiko would later develop into the KSK series. Its silver sunburst dial is fitted with broad applied baton indexes and sharply defined dauphine hands. The restrained case, with its slim bezel and straight lugs, places particular emphasis on the substantial, three-dimensional indexes. While Ref.J14102E is more commonly encountered with a gold-filled case, this example is the considerably less common stainless steel version.

The case shows fine scratches from use, but the outlines of the straight lugs and their defined tips remain well preserved, retaining the clean proportions associated with the first-generation model. The stainless steel designation and reference number on the case back remain clear, as does the shield-shaped KING SEIKO emblem engraved on its exterior. The dial displays some scattered spotting from age, though the sunburst finish and printed details remain clearly visible. The hands and indexes show natural aging, while their multifaceted surfaces reflect the light with considerable definition. Fully serviced by our watchmaker.

Inside is a 25-jewel, manually wound movement operating at a low-beat frequency of 18,000 vibrations per hour. The bridge carries “KING SEIKO 25 JEWELS” in gold lettering, while the movement is equipped with a fine regulator and a balance bridge secured on both sides—features appropriate to a high-grade Daini Seikosha movement of the period. Developed specifically for the first King Seiko and without a conventional calibre designation, it offers a distinctly early construction unlike that of the later 44KS and 45KS. Combining the original King Seiko form with a scarce stainless steel case, this is a particularly appealing example for the collection.
