TUDOR OYSTER PRINCE SUBMARINER Ref.94010 “M.N.82” FRENCH NAVY

COMMENT

This Tudor Oyster Prince Submariner Ref.94010 was issued to the French Navy. The “M.N.82” engraving on the case back denotes Marine Nationale and the year of issue, 1982. Tudor’s relationship with the French Navy began with field testing in 1956, while references from the 9401 family with blue dials and bezels were supplied from the mid-1970s through the 1980s. The matte blue dial is fitted with large square indexes and the distinctive hands commonly known as “Snowflake” hands. Their broad luminous surfaces were designed to provide improved legibility underwater.

The case shows the wear expected of a military-issued watch, while the lugs and crown guards retain substantial thickness. The bezel insert has marks around the 10-minute position but otherwise remains in good condition with relatively few scratches. The lume on the hands and indexes has aged evenly to a cream tone. The “M.N.82” engraving on the case back remains clear, as do the outer markings denoting the Rolex-manufactured case and the reference and serial numbers on the case sides. We replaced the crystal with a well-preserved original example; the removed crystal, which shows scratches, is also included. Fully serviced by our watchmaker.

The watch is powered by the automatic Cal.2776. Its no-date configuration, 200-meter water resistance, and screw-down crown form a straightforward and robust diving watch. Examples supplied to the French Navy were generally delivered without metal bracelets and worn in service on nylon straps or elastic straps made from parachute material. With its clearly legible year-of-issue engraving, this example retains tangible evidence of its military provenance.
